X Introduces New Feature: Audio and Video Calls

The popular social platform, X, has recently announced the expansion of its audio and video calling feature to include more users. Previously, this feature was limited to Premium subscribers but will now be available to all users.

Revealed by X engineer, Enrique Barragan, and reposted by the company’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, X is gradually rolling out audio and video calls to those who do not subscribe to X Premium.

For those unfamiliar, X Premium, formerly known as Twitter Blue, is a paid subscription service that unlocks additional features such as post editing, uploading longer videos, formatting text, and receiving a verified badge. Subscribers also enjoy greater post reach and a reduction in ad frequency.

In the near future, all X app users will be able to make and receive audio and video calls. This new feature is integrated within the direct messaging function and functions similarly to other popular apps like WhatsApp and Instagram. Additionally, due to integration with the iOS CallKit API, incoming calls will be displayed on the Lock Screen, simulating a regular call experience.

Upon the announcement of this feature, it generated some controversy, as certain users expressed concerns about receiving calls from unknown individuals. However, X has implemented measures to address these concerns. Users now have the ability to control who can call them or disable the calling feature altogether.

How to Adjust Calling Settings on X
