Why Apple Rejected Elon Musk’s New Name X for the Twitter App for iOS

Apple Rejects Name Change for Twitter App, Poses Dilemma for Elon Musk

Apple’s Rejection of Name Change

Apple rejected the new name, “X”, for the Twitter socialworking app for iOS, which could pose a dilemma for Elon Musk, who is striving to spread the platform’s new brand.

Although Musk was able to easily change the name of Twitter to “X” in the “Google Play” store, the laws of the “App Store” prevent this, according to the “Arab Gate for Technical News”.

Updated Versions Pushed Out

This week, both the Google Play Store and the App Store pushed out updated versions of the Twitter app for Android and iOS users, respectively. The latest version of the application bears the “X” logo, and in some cases the new name of Twitter, as in the Android system.

“Not Less Than Two Characters”

However, data scientist Nick Sharif noted in his X/Twitter post that “the situation on iOS is different because Apple does not allow any app to be a one-letter name.”

In turn, another user said that “Twitter managed to change the logo of its ‘iOS’ application, but not the name, because Apple requires that the names of applications not be less than two letters.”

Although application names in the App Store may be up to 30 characters long, they must not be less than two characters long, otherwise Apple will reject the application name.

Abandon the Blue Bird

It is noteworthy that Musk and CEO of Twitter, Linda Iaccarino, announced last Monday the abandonment of the familiar blue bird logo that has accompanied the company since its founding in 2006 and the replacement of the letter “X” in its place, as part of the endeavor to make Twitter a comprehensive platform, similar to the Chinese “WeChat” service.

Earlier this year, Musk changed Twitter’s business name to X Corp, or “X” for short.

Changing Twitter’s name to “X” also caused Microsoft’s Edge web browser to display security warnings.
