Browsing Company Brave Software Lays Off 9% of Staff Amid Challenging Economic Climate

Brave Software Confirms Layoffs Amid Tough Economic Climate

Troubled Times Call for Tough Decisions

Brave Software, the maker of Brave Browser and Search, confirmed that it has laid off 9% of its staff across departments.

The company didn’t specify how many people were affected, but it corroborated the development and said the decision was driven by the tough economic climate.

Striving for Revenue Growth

Amidst challenging economic conditions, Brave Software has been taking proactive steps to bolster its revenue sources.

In April, the company made a significant move by ditching Bing Index for its Brave Search service and started relying on its own indexing solution.

Expanding its offerings, Brave released its own search API in May. This API provides various plans for clients, starting from $3 per 1,000 queries. Additionally, it offers different plans for AI data model training, data with storage rights, spellcheck, and autosuggest.

Recently, Brave introduced image, news, and video results as part of its Search API, enhancing the overall user experience.

Unlocking the Power of AI

Brave has been pioneering the integration of artificial intelligence within its browser by testing a native AI assistant called Leo.

While the company plans to make Leo available to all users, it also intends to introduce a premium tier with exclusive features such as higher rate limits and access to more conversation models.

By implementing this premium tier, Brave aims to generate revenue to cover the cost of API access and hosting, ensuring the sustainability of its AI assistant.
