China Begins Sea Trials of First Type-054B Warship
Naval News reported that China has begun sea trials of its first Type-054B warship.
Testing and Weapons
The website indicated that the pictures that appeared of the new ship on social media pages show its return from tests at the shipyard in Shanghai, and reveal new information about some of its weapons, as it was equipped with H/AKJ-16 missile systems that contain 32 cells to launch HQ-16 missiles. Medium-range anti-submarine missiles Yu-8.
The website also indicated that the ship was equipped with H/PJ-11 30 mm machine guns and HQ-10 missile systems against air targets.
The ship also received a 100 mm cannon, similar to the H/PJ-87 cannons used by China with the Type-051C, Type-052B, and Type-052C destroyers.
Design and Development
According to analysts, the new ship was designed to have a small radar footprint, as its design features are similar to those of Type-055 destroyers, and its water displacement is equivalent to approximately 6,000 tons.
China is also developing another Type-054B ship at the Huangpu Shipyard, which it put into the water in November 2023.
