Mortal Kombat 2 Producer Teases Another Major Villain

Since filming restarted on Mortal Kombat 2 last year, producer Todd Garner has kept fans locked to his Twitter account by posting all kinds of behind-the-scenes information. That has included photos of the set that hint at fan-favorite locations from the video game franchise the film is based on and teasers of different characters that will be making their debut in the rebooted movie franchise. Last week, Garner got fans in a tizzy after posting teasers for Shao Kahn, Kitana, and Jade, but the fun hasn’t stopped. Earlier today, Garner posted a close-up of someone’s hand, and many fans think this is a hint for yet another big villain coming to Mortal Kombat 2.

Mortal Kombat 2 Quan Chi Tease

The information presented in the image above is limited in scope. Mortal Kombat enthusiasts should therefore readily identify that pallid, white hand as Quan Chi’s. Damon Herriman, who intriguingly supplied the voice for Kabal in 2021’s Mortal Kombat, will portray the demon necromancer. Herriman has also appeared in television series such as Justified and Mindhunter.

It is possible that it is a distinct character, but Garner frequently corrects fans who make incorrect predictions in the comments. He recently uploaded an image of himself wearing a black costume before a blue screen. Many mistook it for a hint directed at Noob Saibot or Bi-Han, but Garner replied emphatically, “Nope.” Given that he has not explicitly stated to his followers that the hand above does not belong to Quan Chi, it is reasonable to presume that this image is being teased.

It would have been much more entertaining if it were an unexpected character, but it is still entertaining to see behind-the-scenes material from one of the greatest antagonists in the series. It won’t be long before we see Sindel, Baraka, and Jerrod, if Garner continues to tantalize characters; however, with any luck, we’ll all get a closer look at them as soon as the first trailer is released.

Mortal Kombat 2 Release Date

As of the time of writing, no release date has been announced for Mortal Kombat 2. The production of the film was halted in June 2023 as a result of the SAG-AFTRA writers’ strike. Since November, when filming resumed, the crew has been diligently at work. If filming is completed within the next month or so, Mortal Kombat 2 could be released in theaters later this year; however, dependent on its release schedule, Warner Bros. may decide to postpone it until 2025.

The developers at NetherRealm Studios will continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 while you wait. Since its initial release in the autumn of last year, the game has received seasonal content and new combatants. Additionally, a story-based DLC that may be released prior to the film is forthcoming. Presently available for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S is Mortal Kombat 1.
