An expedition of the Institute of the History of Material Civilizations of the Russian Academy of Sciences during excavations of the ancient city of Kherson found an amulet dating back to the first century BC.
Natalya Solovieva, deputy director of the institute, notes that the amulet is shaped like the head of the ancient Egyptian god Bes.
She says: “During ongoing excavations on the southern outskirts of the ancient city of Kherson, we found an amulet necklace with the head of the god Bes, one of the gods of Ancient Egypt, made of glass. This is a god according to ancient myths. – a cheerful dwarf and jester of the gods, the god of happiness and good luck, the protector of the poor, the elderly and children.
According to her, the god Bes had no temples, but he was respected by the Egyptians, especially the poor, who depended on the support of their patron. And this amulet of a bearded dwarf with a long protruding tongue and a sarcastic smile.
Solovieva points out that scientists find amulets during excavations far from Egypt, especially in Central Asia and on the coasts of the Mediterranean, Aegean and northern Black Sea coasts.
It should be noted that the ancient city of Kherson was built by the Greeks in the fifth century BC. region will be displayed.
