Startup and Tech News: Layoffs at Divvy Homes, Databricks’ Series I Funding, and Lime’s Potential IPO

Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts.

Welcome back to Equity, the podcast that delves into the business of startups, uncovering the numbers and nuances behind the headlines. In today’s episode, we have the pleasure of having Kirsten join Mary Ann and Alex once again. It’s always a treat to have her on the show. Let’s dive in and see what we talked about this week!

1) More layoffs at Divvy Homes: Divvy Homes, once a highly valued and heavily venture-backed company, is now facing more layoffs. The rising interest rates are taking a toll on startup land, and Divvy Homes is feeling the ripple effect.

2) Databricks secures $500 million in Series I funding: Databricks, a leading AI company, has just raised a significant amount of capital. With fresh capital in hand, Databricks can continue to work on advancing AI technology.

3) Lime, it’s time to go public: Lime, the profitable and private scooter company, has been teasing an IPO for a while now. While we appreciate their success and growth, we can’t help but expect an S-1 filing sooner rather than later.

4) The importance of data: Venture capital firms seem to have a different opinion when it comes to the value of data. While more data is generally seen as a good thing, some VCs may have a differing perspective.

5) Quick deliveries and global labor costs: Ever wondered where you should live if you want groceries in 15 minutes? Brazil and India seem to be the places to be, thanks to differing labor costs that make quick deliveries feasible.

That’s all we have for you this week. Stay tuned for more exciting conversations on the next episode of Equity! And don’t forget to check out our website for episode transcripts and more.
