Birth "The largest twin in the world" From frozen embryos, since the father was 5 years old and the mother was 3 years old!

The twins were born on October 31 in Oregon from embryos frozen 30 years ago, which is considered a new world record.

Twins Lydia and Timothy hold the record for the most frozen embryos born, according to the National Embryo Donation Center. The same center previously set a previous record in 2020 when baby Molly Gibson was born from a 27-year-old frozen embryo, taking the title from her sister, Em, born from an embryo that had been frozen for 24 years.

The parents of the new record-breaking twins said the twins were “their oldest” (since the couple have four other children) despite being less than a month old, meaning “they are our oldest children even though they are the youngest”. .

CNN reported that on April 22, 1992, embryos were frozen for an unknown couple who were undergoing IVF and using a 34-year-old egg donor. My husband was in his fifties. The couple hoped that another family would be able to use the embryos, a process called embryo donation.

The frozen embryos from which the twins Lydia and Timothy were born were stored in liquid nitrogen at -128 degrees Celsius (-200 Fahrenheit) in a West Coast laboratory. fertility in the United States until 2007, when an unidentified couple donated their frozen embryos to the National Embryo Donor Center (NEDC) in Knoxville, Tennessee.

At the time the embryos were frozen, Rachel and Philip Ridgway’s parents were only three and five years old, respectively.

Philippe stated: “There is something overwhelming about it. I was five years old when God gave life to Lydia and Timothy, and since then He has been protecting them!”

He added that he and his wife deliberately chose the embryos that belonged to the first donors. “We didn’t want to have the embryos that had been frozen the longest in the world,” he said. “We just wanted the ones that had waited the longest.”

The embryos were thawed on February 28 this year. Of the five thawed, two were not viable, and Rachel Ridgway received three others in March, 29 years and 10 months after they were frozen.

Two transfers were successful and the twins were born in October. Lydia weighed about 2.3 kg, and Timofey weighed about 3 kg.

The Ridgway couple already have four other children, aged eight, six, three and one, who were born naturally without the need for artificial insemination or donors.

They are a genetic time capsule welcomed in world almost 30 years later.

Dr. James Gordon, Ridgway’s family doctor, said: “If you freeze at about minus 200 degrees, biological processes basically slow down to zero. And so, perhaps the difference between freezing a week, a month, a year, a decade or two, has no great importance.”
