A source with knowledge of the situation claims that Apple has no immediate plans to buy Manchester United of the Premier League.
The Daily Star, a British tabloid, reported earlier today that Apple had indicated a desire to purchase Manchester United for about $7 billion. However, our source, who had firsthand knowledge of the events, asserted that the report was inaccurate.
The Glazer family has owned a majority of Manchester United since 2005. On Tuesday, the club announced that its board intended to “explore strategic alternatives,” which may include a possible club sale. The announcement that star player Cristiano Ronaldo would be leaving Manchester United also happened that day.
Apple has been pushing into sports content but has yet to make plans to purchase Manchester United. During the 2022 regular season, the company collaborated with the MLB to air a weekly “Friday Night Baseball” doubleheader on Apple TV+. It will serve as the sole distributor of MLS matches for the following ten years. According to reports, Apple is also favored to win the streaming rights to the NFL’s Sunday Ticket package starting in the upcoming season.
