Turkey launches new warship it has developed for Pakistan

Naval News reported that Turkey has launched a new warship that is being developed for the Pakistan Navy.

A post on the website states: “A ceremony was recently held in Istanbul to commemorate the landing of the Khyber, which is the second MILGEM ship that Turkey is developing for the needs of the Pakistani army. The ceremony was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. , Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, as well as a number of high-ranking naval officers from the two countries.

During the ceremony, Erdogan highlighted the development of Turkish-Pakistani relations in the defense industry in recent years and indicated that “by February 2025, the Pakistani Navy will receive a fourth MILGEM-class ship.”

In July 2018, the Pakistan Navy command signed contracts worth about $1.5 billion with Turkish companies for the purchase of 4 new MILGEM-class warships, and under the terms of the contracts, the first two of these ships are being manufactured in Turkey at a plant in Istanbul. Naval Shipyard and the other two ships are made in Pakistan.

Each of the four above-mentioned ships is 108.8 meters long, 14.8 meters wide, and will have a displacement equivalent to 2,988 tons. These ships will also be equipped with gas turbine engines capable of speeds up to 26 nautical miles. knots and cover a distance of 3500 miles in each mission.

These ships are armed with LY-80 anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as modern radars capable of simultaneously tracking about 500 sea, air and ground targets.
