Instagram is looking into an issue that prevented thousands of users from accessing the photo-sharing platform, with many complaining about their accounts being suspended.
“We understand that some of you are having trouble logging into your Instagram account. We are looking into this and apologize for the inconvenience,” Meta Platforms-owned Instagram said on its Twitter account on Monday.
An Instagram spokesperson did not comment on the account suspension issue. Several users of the platform wrote on Twitter that Instagram asked them for their email and phone number to access suspended accounts.
Earlier today, nearly 3,000 users were affected, according to the Downdetector website, which tracks outages, but this outage may have affected a far greater number of users.
Meta shares fell roughly five percent due to widespread selling in the equity markets.
