On Tuesday, Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and the main contributor to the open-source WordPress project, launched an AI assistant for the popular content management system.

The assistant easily integrates with WordPress.com and all Jetpack-powered sites. It generates text based on natural language prompts and can create structured lists and tables within a blog post. It can also change the tonality of a post and make it more informal, skeptical, humorous, confident, or empathetic. The assistant supports 12 languages and offers better spelling and grammar correction features than WordPress’s built-in tools.

Features of the AI Assistant

  • Integrates with WordPress.com and Jetpack-powered sites
  • Generates text based on natural language prompts
  • Creates structured lists and tables within a blog post
  • Changes the tonality of a post
  • Supports 12 languages, including Spanish, French, Chinese, Korean, and Hindi
  • Offers better spelling and grammar correction features than WordPress’s built-in tools
  • Creates a summary for the post and suggests titles for it

Pricing

For a limited time, Jetpack AI Assistant is free to use for all WordPress.com customers. Jetpack AI Assistant block will let users send 20 requests as a free trial. After that, they have to pay $10 per month to access the feature.

How to Activate AI Assistant in WordPress Editor?

Activate the block with the Inserter or the “/” command shortcut. (If you didn’t know, here’s a fun tip: Hit the “/” button in the post or page editor and type the name of the block you’re looking for. In this case, it would be “AI”.)

Competition in AI-Powered Writing Tools

In the past few months, numerous writing tools have introduced a different set of AI-powered features. Google and Microsoft are both integrating different AI features into their professional application suites — including Microsoft Word and Google Docs. Google introduced Project Tailwind, an AI-powered note-taking experience, at Google I/O last month. Other writing solutions like Grammarly have also introduced AI-aided tools into their apps.
