According to the agency, the newly discovered scene refers to an important mosaic panel previously discovered in the city of Rastan in rural Homs, which dates from the second half of the fourth century AD.
A Masterpiece Rediscovered
According to the “SANA” website, a mosaic painting discovered in Rastan a few months ago is considered one of the most famous and important paintings in the world. It depicts important scenes, including the central scene depicting the god Poseidon, the god of the sea, and the second scene, depicting the war of the Amazons.
The Rare “War of the Centaurs” Scene
As for the newly discovered new scene that gives the picture exceptional significance, which was announced on Thursday during a press conference in the city of Rastan, it is a rare scene, known in Greek mythology as the “War of the Centaurs”. It portrays a battle between the inhabitants of the Greek Laptis and centaurs invited to a wedding feast, where their Greek names were found written next to each face.
