Google Rolls Out Duet AI, an AI Assistant for Google Workspace Services

Google Rolls Out AI Assistant “Duet AI” in Google Workspace Services

Introduction

Google has started to roll out its artificial intelligence assistant, Duet AI, in Google Workspace services. This new assistant is still in an experimental phase, with only some users having access to it as part of a limited trial.

Duet AI: A Recap

Duet AI was announced at the Google I/O 2023 developer conference. It is a personal assistant based on generative artificial intelligence techniques. Initially, Google allowed users to register their interest in trying out the assistant through its website.

What is Duet AI?

Duet AI introduces new features across various Google Workspace applications, including Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets. Additionally, Duet AI appears in Meet, Gmail, and other applications. The AI assistant can perform complex tasks with the push of a button, depending on the application where it is executing.

How Can Duet AI Help You?

For example, when executing within the presentations application, Duet AI can generate images and backgrounds from text commands entered by the user. The user can then choose the type of drawing they want to produce, and up to eight graphics will be generated. The user can then insert the desired image into the presentation directly. Similarly, Duet AI helps generate text in the Docs application, is capable of drafting professional responses within Gmail, and more.

Rollout and Competition

Google plans to roll out its AI assistant to more users soon to accelerate its training and improve it. At present, Google’s Duet AI is competing with Microsoft’s Copilot, which offers similar tools in Microsoft 365 services.
