New iPhone 15 Pro Leak: Volume and Mute Buttons Combined for Simplified Design

According to leaked CAD images shared in a video on the Chinese version of TikTok and tweeted by ShrimpApplePro, the next-generation iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a single button that controls both volume and mute. This was already rumored.

Instead of separate buttons for turning the volume up and down, the iPhone 15 Pro will likely have a single, long control that can be used to do either. The mute switch, which has been there since the first iPhone came out in 2007, is expected to become a button that can be pressed to turn on or off the iPhone’s ringer.

It is said that both the volume and mute buttons will be solid-state. Instead of physically moving, the buttons would give haptic feedback from two more Taptic Engines inside the iPhone to make it feel like they are moving, like the Home button on the latest iPhone SE or the Force Touch trackpad on modern MacBooks.

Other CAD images in the video show that both the standard iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus will still have two physical volume buttons and a mute switch. As usual, Apple should announce the whole iPhone 15 line in September.

In related news, tech reviewer Sonny Dickson has given us another look at what might be the front glass panels for the iPhone 15 series. Like the first leak, the images show that the bezels around the screen will be thinner on the Pro models, and the Dynamic Island will also be added to the standard iPhone 15 models.
