WaBetaInfo said that WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has added another new feature for people who prefer to avoid getting messages from unknown numbers.
Many people get texts from numbers they don’t know, and it can be hard to figure out who is trying to get in touch.
But now you don’t have to worry because the messaging app is getting a new update through the Google Play Beta Program that will bring it up to version 2.23.5.12.
With this new update, when a user gets a message from someone they don’t know in a group chat, the push name will replace the phone number.
This update is being rolled out to beta testers, and in the next few days, it will be available to more users.
WhatsApp would switch the phone number and push the names into the message bubble in group chats. This would make it easy for people in your group to spot messages from people they don’t know.
When a user gets a message in a group chat from an unknown number, the push name shows up instead of the number.
The app-tracking website said, “This change makes it easier for the recipient to figure out whom the unknown contact is without having to save the number as a new contact. This is especially helpful in large group chats, where figuring out who the unknown group members are can be difficult.”
The push name could also appear in other parts of the app, like the list of people in a group.
This feature is also available for iOS beta testers.
