Huawei Launches Smart Watch Capable of Measuring Blood Glucose
The Breakthrough Feature
The Chinese company Huawei has launched its new smart watch, Huawei Watch 4, which comes as the first smart watch capable of measuring blood glucose without pricking the user or analyzing a blood sample.
The blood glucose measurement function in the new Huawei Watch 4 is an achievement for the Chinese company in the field of smart health, as this function will measure and monitor the user’s blood sugar and notify him if he is in danger or need medical advice.
This feature will also be useful for monitoring blood sugar levels throughout the day for people with diabetes, or those in the pre-diabetic stage, without the need for frequent punctures with traditional devices.
However, the watch is no substitute for medical examinations or specialized measuring equipment. Huawei did not disclose in detail the mechanism for measuring blood sugar in the new watch.
Thorough Physical Examination
The new Huawei watch also offers another feature, namely the “thorough physical examination”, which measures many health indicators and vital signs in the body with the push of a button in just 10 seconds, with an exam report provided. This includes heart rate measurement, electrocardiogram, blood oxygen level, temperature, respiratory function, arterial status and more.
Interestingly, the body of the watch is circular in shape, with a screen covered and protected by high hardness “sapphire” glass, measuring one and a half inches of AMOLED type, and the weight and thickness of the watch is approximately 10% less than the previous version.
Availability and Pricing
The watch is available in a basic 46mm version in stainless steel and a 48mm “Pro” version in titanium alloy.
The Huawei Watch 4 runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS 3.1 operating system and the battery lasts up to 3 days in the basic version of the watch (or 14 days in ultra energy saving mode), while the battery of the “Pro” version lasts up to 4 and a half days (or 21 days in Ultra Energy Saving Mode) and the watch supports 5ATM water resistance function.
Huawei started offering the watch in China priced from around $400 for the basic version and $500 for the “Pro” version of the watch, and the watch will soon be launched in global markets.
