All You Need to Know about Today’s Space Mission Involving Sultan Al Neyadi

Today, Saturday, Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi participated in the mission to reset the docking site of SpaceX spacecraft (Dragon) with the International Space Station.

Al-Neyadi participated in this mission, together with his crewmates (Crew-6), who are aboard the International Space Station in Expedition 69; They are: Stephen Bowen and Warren Hoberg of the US space agency (NASA) and Andrei Fedyaev of the Russian space agency (Roscosmos).

AND in this task; Al-Neyadi and his colleagues worked to restore the docking site of the Dragon spacecraft to separate it from the port of the “Harmony” unit facing the space and transfer it to the forward port of the station, where it is possible to receive the payload No. June 28 next.

This is the third Dragon vehicle docking port recovery operation after the previous recovery operations, which were between crew (Cro-1) and (Cro-2) missions.

Supported by Mission Control at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston and SpaceX in Hawthorne, in California, the mission will liberate the Upper Spaceport.

This mission is a prelude to the receipt of Payload n. 28 next June, which will be sent from SpaceX to the International Space Station and includes collapsible solar panels.

The Dragon Docking Port Recovery mission commenced today at 15:00 UAE time and the mission was successful. When the vehicle separated from the port of the “Harmony” unit in front of the space aboard the International Space Station, it performed a shift maneuver to change its position, then continued its path towards docking with the port front of the “Harmony” unit.

The team gave the order to separate the vehicle (Dragon) at exactly 15:10 and the vehicle started to separate at exactly 15:20.

And the (Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center) has published, through its Twitter account, the first shots from the Dragon spacecraft, which detached from the port of the “Harmony” unit in front of space aboard the International Space Station.

The Dragon spacecraft successfully docked to the forward port of the Harmony module on the International Space Station at 16:00 UAE time today.

Sultan Al Neyadi was launched to the International Space Station on March 2, and is currently engaged in the longest space mission in the history of the Arabs, which is expected to last 6 months.

The Crew 6 mission is the first long-term mission by Arab astronauts and the second Emirati mission to the International Space Station, launched from the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center as part of the UAE Astronaut Programme.

A few days ago the UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi managed to carry out the first spacewalk in the history of the Arabs together with the American astronaut (Stephen Bowen), lasting 7 hours and one minute, to organize the installation of solar panels, and this mission was completed successfully.

Sultan Al Neyadi was also in able to accomplish an unprecedented feat two days ago in space. He became the first astronaut to practice jujitsu on the International Space Station, which is his favorite sport that he had practiced for years on Earth, and it helped a lot to adjust to life aboard the International Station.

It is worth noting that SpaceX designed suits for the astronauts on the mission (Crow 6) and each suit provides a pressurized environment for all crew members aboard Dragon in atypical situations, and this suit directs communication and cooling systems to the astronauts on board during flight and key features include a molded space helmet in 3D, touchscreen compatible gloves, flame retardant lining and hearing protection during ascent and return.
