Detecting Parkinson’s 15 years in advance with Artificial Intelligence

AI Tool Predicts Parkinson’s Disease 15 Years Early

Australian and US researchers have created an artificial intelligence tool in can predict Parkinson’s disease up to 15 years before a person actually develops the disease.

Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease, neurological disorder in faster growth in worldwide, it is caused by loss of neurons in the brain and symptoms include body tremors, slow movement, body stiffness and balance problems.

Other symptoms, including depression, sleep problems, constipation and loss of smell, can appear decades before the more common physical and cognitive signs appear.

AI Model Predicts Parkinson’s Disease

A report published by the newspaper (Metro) issued in London, and viewed by Agency Net, says that researchers have trained an artificial intelligence model to detect Parkinson’s disease, and it is supposed to predict its incidence 15 years earlier of the diagnosis, which means that this tool shortens the doctors for many years and helps to deal with the patient before the infection.

The team of research, which belongs to the University of New South Wales in Australia and Boston University in the United States, has been in able to train their own AI model to detect disease in blood samples, using data generated by one studio of 41,000 participants.

AI Model Accuracy

The AI model was given blood data from a random group of 39 participants who developed Parkinson’s disease, and by testing the blood, the AI was in able to identify those who in later developed Parkinson’s disease with up to 96% accuracy. , up to 15 years before a clinical diagnosis.

Studies show that the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease with current clinical methods ranges from 65% to 93%.

Key Metabolites Identified

The team from UNSW said: ‘Our research identified a chemical, most likely a triterpenoid, as a key metabolite that can prevent Parkinson’s disease, and the abundance of triterpenoids was lower in the blood of those who developed the disease. Parkinson’s disease compared to those who did not.”

The team she added: ‘A synthetic chemical has also been linked as something that could increase the risk of developing the disease. This chemical has been found in larger quantities in those who in they later developed Parkinson’s disease.”

Importance of Early Detection

Researchers say they hope to improve a patient’s quality of life by detecting the disease in advance, which also reduces healthcare costs.
