WhatsApp Rolls Out ‘Companion Mode’ Feature to All Beta Users

It’s finally cool for the messenger to handle multiple devices.

There are many good reasons to use WhatsApp, but keeping track of your conversations as you switch from phone to phone or phone to tablet has been a pain. The good news is that the app makes it much easier to use on multiple devices. It has a new companion mode lets you access your account on multiple smartphones.

WhatsApp makes it easier to send group texts to people with different phone operating systems because it doesn’t use iMessage. You can also use the service to chat anywhere you have Wi-Fi, making it an excellent choice for texting from your computer or traveling abroad and wanting to use something other than your carrier’s data. End-to-end encryption is also part of the service, making it a safer way to talk than other messaging apps and services.

One bad thing about WhatsApp was that it could only be put on one phone or tablet at a time. So, you can’t install WhatsApp on the second device if you use one phone for personal business and another for work or while traveling (or if you want to chat on your tablet and phone).

Last year, WhatsApp started testing a companion mode with some beta users. WABetaInfo says the feature is available for all Android beta testers. The second device must be an Android phone or tablet because iOS still needs support. If your main device is iOS, you can use an Android device as a second one.

If you want to try it out, download the latest beta version of WhatsApp from the Google Play store and then choose “Link a device” on the registration screen. From there, you can connect your two devices by going to Settings > Linked devices on your main device and taking a picture of the QR code on your second device.

You can connect up to four devices to your WhatsApp account, so if you want to use the service on a computer with a full keyboard, you can connect both your home and work computers.
