Elon Musk-owned X introduces a new feature for paid users to hide their likes
Elon Musk’s social network, formerly known as Twitter, has unveiled a new feature exclusively for its paid users. These users now have the option to hide their likes on the platform. This move comes after rival social networks, Threads and Bluesky, recently introduced similar capabilities that allow users to view their own likes.
Paid users on X can now access a setting under profile customization that enables them to hide the likes tab.
The feature description states, “Your Likes tab on your profile will only be visible to you. Your Likes timeline will also be hidden from the X APIs. Your individual Likes will still be visible on posts.”
Until now, likes on X have been openly displayed, allowing anyone to visit a user’s profile and view the posts they have liked. However, Musk has now provided an additional benefit to the paid tier by allowing users to like posts without worrying about others seeing their activity.
Earlier this month, X introduced the option for subscribers to hide their verification checkmark, likely to avoid becoming the subject of this popular meme. However, users who choose to hide their likes tab may inadvertently reveal that they have paid for the subscription.
Over on Threads, users can access their liked posts through the “Your Likes” tab in the Settings, which are kept private. Bluesky’s own app and website also maintain private likes, but the platform has mentioned that likes can be made public, and apps using the Bluesky API can opt to show a likes tab on a profile.
