The CEO of X Claims that the Platform is Healthier and Safer

The CEO of X, formerly Twitter, said in an interview Thursday with CNBC that the platform is “much healthier and safer” than it was a year ago.

“By all objective measures, X is a much healthier and more secure platform than it was a year ago,” Linda Iaccarino said. “Since our acquisitions, we’ve built brand security and content moderation tools that weren’t there before at this company.”

Iaccarino also noted the company’s recently introduced policy of “freedom of speech, not freedom of access.”

In an April post on the company’s blog about the policy, the company described it as “our implementation philosophy which means, where appropriate, limiting the reach of Tweets that violate our policies by making content less discoverable.”

“If you are going to post something illegal or against the law we will have zero tolerance,” Iaccarino said.

“Freedom of Expression” and Increased Hate Speech Reports

After Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform last year, he announced his plans to allow “freedom of expression” and change the content moderation policy, however, he later said that the platform could not become a “free hell arena for all.”

Reports of increased hate speech on the platform began to rise after Musk’s takeover of the platform in October, and just over a month later, 50 of the top 100 advertisers have stopped their ads on the platform, according to left-leaning monitoring group Media Matters for America.

Last month, X threatened legal action against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), an organization that has been tracking the spread of hate speech on the platform over alleged “misleading claims” about the socialworking site.

Imran Ahmed, an executive officer at the Advisory Council for Human Rights, said in a statement at the time: “This must be the last time anyone would dare claim that Musk is a ‘freedomer of speech’ who is in fact a bully who uses attack dogs to terrorize his opponents into silence.”.
