The idea of intelligent extraterrestrial life has long been obsessed by scientists and the public with many theories as to what may or may not be out there in the depths of space.
A recent study has offered a new explanation for why aliens (if any) have not visited our planet – because there is no sign of intelligence here.
Essentially, they mean that we didn’t send detectable signals from space until the 1930s, so the aliens didn’t have enough time to receive the message or respond to it.
The researchers said the radio waves reached about 15,000 of the stars and planets orbiting them, out of the Milky Way’s 400 billion stars.
What’s more, study author Amre Wandel, an astrophysicist at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, wrote in the paper that it takes time to receive any return message from aliens.
In fact, only stars within 50 light-years have had enough time to react since the Earth began erupting into the depths of space. Not only that, but Earth’s first radio signals weren’t deliberately sent out into the universe, which means aliens would have had a hard time distinguishing them because of the mess they would be in after reaching space for one light year.
It wasn’t until 1974 that we sent the first deliberate high-energy transmission to aliens, the Arecibo message.
However, there have since been plans to send another message in the form of a Beacon in the Galaxy (BITG) message.
Most of Arecibo’s message will include a DNA drawing, a solar system, and a diagram of male and female morphology, but it will also contain a lot of information about the basics of mathematics and science. All this indicates that extraterrestrial life did not have time to answer us, the researchers say.
Wandell believes that his theory indicates the absence of intelligent aliens within a radius of 50 light years from Earth, but this does not exclude their existence somewhere in the universe.
The reason may be that he is waiting for technological signals from the Earth to reach him, or that his answer is not yet ready.
“Contact probability is defined as the chance of finding a civilization close enough that it can detect the first radio emissions (radiosphere) and send a probe into the solar system at this time,” Wandell wrote. He found that the current probability of contact with Earth is very low unless civilizations abound. Extremely.
He added: “The era of communication is defined as the time (from the advent of wireless transmission) when the probability of communication becomes a unit of the system. At this time, alien probes (or messages) become more likely. If civilizations do not disappear, very numerous, the communication era, seems to range from a few hundred to a few thousand years, and can be applied not only to physical probes, but also to transmissions (such as SETI) Thus, it has been shown that civilizations are unlikely to be able to communicate unless their communicative life does not last at least a few thousand years.”
