In the Murmansk region, in the Russian Arctic, the construction of the largest wind farm has been completed.
This was announced by Enel Russia on its website, indicating that the first stage of the station, which generates 170 megawatts of electricity, was put into operation, the total capacity of the project should be 201 megawatts.
It is noteworthy that the construction of the station began on September 19, 2019 with the support of the government of the Murmansk region. Its second phase is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2023.
The Kolskaya wind farm will generate 750 GWh per year, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 600,000 per year.
The wind fans were equipped with 57 turbines on an area of 257 hectares.
A representative of Enel Russia said that all station devices are specially designed to operate at low temperatures. All fans are also equipped with systems to help detect the risk of icing and automatically stop their operation.
It is noteworthy that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that large-scale projects related to energy will begin to be implemented in the Russian Arctic in the near future.
