Alexei Sobsevich, director of the Laboratory of Applied Geophysics and Volcanology at the Institute of Geophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that the Stromboli volcano eruption is a natural phenomenon.
And the geophysicist points out in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper that the eruption of the Stromboli volcano in southern Italy was not provoked by any catalyst. According to local residents, the eruption caused a tsunami and waves 1.5 meters high.
He says: “The volcanic eruption began a few months ago, and this is a natural phenomenon, nothing provoked. The volcanic eruption began in the summer, which means that this is not the first outpouring of lava. This situation always repeats because its conical shape is very sharp, so sometimes it also causes a tsunami.”
The expert confirms that there is currently no abnormal volcanic activity on the planet.
According to local media, a powerful explosion was heard and a collapse occurred in the western part of the crater, after which an eruption began and lava and rocks flowed out.
