What is the weak point of the Patriot system?

U.S. Marine Mark Kanchian said Russian suicide drones could quickly disable Patriot anti-aircraft missiles likely to be sent to Ukraine.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Kanchian notes that the cost of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile launcher is $10 million, and the cost of each missile is about $4 million. So from an economic point of view, these missiles should not be used against cheap Russian suicide drones.

“Firing a $1 million missile against a $50,000 drone is a huge loss,” he says.

He adds, and that’s not counting the lack of knowledge of the Ukrainian army on how to use such modern mechanisms, and in addition, 90 servicemen are required to maintain each battery. So the United States must train the Ukrainians to operate it, and this takes an indefinite time.

It should be noted that, according to the Western media, the provision of Patriot batteries to Kyiv would be a symbolic step, and would not change anything during the fighting in Ukraine. But on the other hand, this is a gamble for Washington. Because it is possible that the Russians could capture the Patriot battery and find out details about its anti-aircraft capabilities.
