Scientists from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences have discovered the oldest traces of the presence of ancient people of the modern race near the Arctic Circle, in northwestern Siberia.
Mikhail Shonkov, adviser to the director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, said in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS that this is the farthest point in the north where traces of ancient people have been found in areas of western Siberia.
He says, “These effects are 45,000 to 40,000 years old and are the oldest traces ever found that indicate human presence above the Arctic Circle.”
And he adds, these effects were found at 65 degrees north latitude, and the Arctic Circle is located at 66 degrees latitude.
According to him, these traces of modern man, Homo Sapience, allow us to talk about the high ability of ancient man to adapt.
It should be noted that scientists also found bones of reindeer with traces of slaughter with stone tools. Rare stone products have also been found in this region, the value of which is equivalent to the cost of dozens of stone products found in the southern regions.
