UFO-Like Giant Ghost Jellyfish Spotted Off Antarctica Coast

A new study has uncovered rare sightings of giant ghost jellyfish: deep-sea creatures that look like alien UFOs with thick ribbons streaming down their undersides.

They were seen by cruise ship passengers who noticed other animals off the coast of Antarctica.

A giant ghost jellyfish (Stygiomedusa gigantea), one of the largest deep-sea invertebrate predators, greeted guests as they sailed on cruise operator Viking’s submarine in early 2022. Researchers estimate that the length of the jellyfish exceeded 16 feet (5.5 m). meters), one of them extends at least 33 feet (10 meters), according to a study published January 30 in the journal Polar Research.

— Live Science (@LiveScience) February 27, 2023

The study’s first author, Daniel Moore, first realized that guests were facing a giant ghost when he saw one image on a guest’s camera. Moore, a senior Viking scientist, said: “I immediately knew what it was and, given the rarity of the sightings, I was overwhelmed with excitement.”

Giant ghost jellyfish live in all oceans except the Arctic Ocean. However, since these secretive creatures usually swim deep below the surface, they are rarely seen by humans. A new study describes direct sightings of three different jellyfish taken while scuba diving off the Antarctic Peninsula.

Jellyfish have been seen at depths of 260 feet (80 meters), 285 feet (87 meters) and 920 feet (280 meters). Giant ghost jellyfish are mostly found below 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) but can usually be found in the upper Southern or Antarctic Ocean. It is not yet known why they are found in the relatively shallow waters around Antarctica.

Moore noted that one possible explanation is that jellyfish swim up to expose themselves to ultraviolet light, which will rid them of parasites. Another hypothesis put forward by Moore is that the deep waters flowing around Antarctica simply carry it up. Moore hopes that their observations will help to better understand the ghostly life of giant jellyfish.

The practice of cruise lines bringing passengers to Antarctica has generated some controversy. The US Coast Guard announced on February 2 that it has joined international partners to investigate four deaths and other injuries of US citizens on passenger ships in Antarctica between November 15 and December 1, 2022. Viking, after a large wave hit the ship.

The US Coast Guard describes Antarctica as a “uniquely high risk” environment and is committed to improving maritime safety and preventing similar incidents in the future. And the waters around Antarctica can be treacherous.

Competing for the Dragon Cake: Apple Suppliers Battle to Exit China

Apple’s Chinese suppliers are likely to move their manufacturing capacity out of the country much faster than many observers expect to avoid the fallout from escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington, according to one of the US firm’s top partners.

GoerTek, maker of the AirPods, is one of several manufacturers exploring locations outside of China, which today supplies most of the world with iPhone and PlayStation accessories.

Vice President Kazuyoshi Yoshinaga said in an interview that the company is initially investing 280 million dollars in a new factory in Vietnam, considering expansion in India. He pointed out that American technology companies in in particular they were lobbying for manufacturers of accessories for their devices, such as GoerTek, to move their equipment in alternative venues, according to Bloomberg, and Al Arabiya.net he saw it.

Yoshinaga added that as of last month, the dominant question from the company’s customers was when to exit China.

This comes after the US-China conflict that began with a trade war escalated to include a blanket ban on the exchange of chips and capital and prompted rethinking the decades-old electronics industry supply chain.

And behind the scenes, 9 out of 10 of Apple’s top suppliers may be preparing for large-scale moves in countries like India, by providing incentives to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make’ initiative. in India”.

Bloomberg Intelligence estimates it could take 8 years to move just 10% of Apple’s capacity out of China.

Vietnam is currently the only production site of GoerTek outside of China. Yoshinaga said the new 62-hectare complex in Bac Ninh will produce products for major American brands and is expected to start operating within a year.

Yoshinaga said his company, which also plans to produce virtual reality headsets in Vietnam from 2024, the Southeast Asian country is expected to produce more than half of its global revenue in three years, compared to a third today.

He added that the company is also asking its suppliers to scout northern Vietnam for new factories. It produces Quest virtual reality headsets for Meta Platforms and PSVR devices for Sony Group.

He pointed out that GoerTek had established its operations in Vietnam a decade ago to produce audio devices at the request of Samsung Electronics.

He said Vietnam’s proximity to China, a coastal network of ports, a young and educated workforce and relative political stability make the Southeast Asian country an ideal manufacturing hub, as the company currently employs around 40,000 workers in the its factories in China. But Yoshinaga sees the anti-corruption campaign as worrying, which led to the recent dismissal of the president and two deputy prime ministers.

For now, Vietnam remains an attractive place. Apple may be looking to make the country a manufacturing hub for AirPods, iPads and MacBooks.

Yoshinaga said many US companies intend to move production there, regardless of the cost. Others like Jabil Inc. think of India. But in overall, the flow will always be outward from China, he said. “I don’t think he’s coming back. It’s One Direction,” she said.

Brightening Night Sky: A 10% Increase in Visibility Each Year

A recent study found that the night sky is getting brighter by about 10% every year and is wiping stars out of our view due to increased levels of light pollution.

The warning comes from astronomers who are monitoring an international citizen science project called Globe at Night that has been collecting visibility data for prominent constellations for more than a decade.

Scientists have said our change of heart is a loss to scientists who rely on dark skies to study the universe, and a loss to our “cultural heritage.”

Professor Chris Impey of the University of Arizona and Dr. Connie Walker of the National Research Laboratory for Optical and Infrared Astronomy explained: “For decades, astronomers have been building telescopes in the darkest places on Earth to avoid light pollution. Today, most people live in cities or suburbs that shed light. Excessive light in the night sky, which greatly reduces the visibility of the stars.

Satellite data show that light pollution in North America and Europe has remained stable or declined slightly over the past decade, while it has increased in other parts of the world such as Africa, Asia and South America.

However, the satellites transmit the blue light of LEDs that are commonly used for outdoor lighting, resulting in less light pollution.

The Globe at Night project is recruiting members of the public as “citizen scientists” to measure how people’s view of the sky is changing on a daily basis.

“By relying on citizen scientists, it’s very easy to take multiple measurements of the night sky over time from different locations,” said Empy and Dr. Walker.

To provide data for the project, volunteers enter the date, time, location, and local weather conditions into the online reporting page at any time about an hour after sunset on certain nights of each month. The page then displays eight panels, each showing a constellation visible at that time of year, such as Orion (or Gemini) in January and February.

The first panel, which is a brightened night sky, shows several brighter stars. Each panel shows gradually fading stars, representing a darker sky. Participants then match what they see in the sky with one of the panels.

The Globe at Night team launched the reporting page as an online application in 2011, when LED lighting began to become widespread.

In a recently published study, researchers looked at data collected since then, first filtering out potentially unreliable reports, such as those collected at dusk when the moon brightened the sky or when the sky was covered with clouds.

This left them with 51,000 data points, most of which were recorded in Europe and North America.

The team found that, on average, the night sky gets 9.6% brighter each year, meaning that the night sky now appears to many to be twice as bright as it was just eight years ago.

As Prof. Impey and Dr. Walker note, “If this trend continues, a child born today in a place where 250 stars are now appearing will only see 100 stars by their 18th birthday.”

The duo continued: “The main reason for the increase in the brightness of the night sky is urbanization and the increasing use of LEDs for outdoor lighting. The loss of dark skies due to light pollution, as well as the increase in the number of satellites orbiting the Earth, threatens our ability as astronomers to do science.”

They continued: “Light pollution also interferes with the diurnal cycle of light and dark that plants and animals use to regulate sleep, nutrition, and reproduction.”

However, there are steps people and their communities can take to reduce light pollution, such as protecting street lights to shine down, replacing white light with yellow alternatives, and setting lighting on timers or motion sensors.

The full results of the study are published in the journal Science.

“We Apologise in Advance!” Snapchat has Issued a Warning That Using its New AI Conversation Bot May Cause Hallucinations

On Monday, Snapchat unveiled “My AI,” an experimental ChatGPT-based conversational chatbot that uses artificial intelligence. According to a press post from Snap, Inc., My AI is launching “this week” and will cost $3.99 monthly for Snapchat+ customers.

Sorry in advance Snapchat warns of hallucinations with new AI conversation bot_

Giving the AI bot a unique name allows users to customize it. Similar to a conventional chat with a human, conversations with the AI model will occur in a comparable interface. According to Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, “the fundamental concept is that we’re going to chat to AI every day in addition to talking to our friends and family every day.”

However, Snap claims that My AI, like its GPT-powered counterparts ChatGPT and Bing Chat, is susceptible to “hallucinations” or unanticipated falsehoods produced by an AI model. In its post announcing My AI, Snap includes the following lengthy disclaimer:

“My AI, like other chatbots powered by AI, is susceptible to hallucinations and can be made to say almost anything. I apologize in advance and ask that you know its many shortcomings. Every communication you have with My AI will be recorded and could be evaluated to enhance the experience. Please don’t divulge any secrets to My AI, and don’t follow its recommendations.”

“Hallucination” is a word machine learning researchers use to describe when an AI model draws incorrect conclusions about a topic or circumstance that isn’t addressed in its training data set. The ability of modern large language models, like ChatGPT, to readily fabricate plausible-sounding falsehoods, such as academic articles that don’t exist and erroneous biographies, is a well-known problem.

Snapchat_

The company claims that its new Snapchat bot will “recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a dinner recipe, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal” and will be pinned above conversations with friends in its tab in the Snapchat app.

How the same bot that cannot be “rel[ied] on for guidance” can also arrange a precise and secure “hiking trip for a long weekend” is not explained by Snap. This dissonance has been used by opponents of the generative AI’s hurried rollout to argue that these chatbots are not ready for wider usage, especially when used as a reference.

While some have made a game out of finding ways to get around ChatGPT and Bing Chat’s workarounds, Snap is said to have taught its GPT model to refrain from talking about sex, profanity, violence, or political views. These limitations might be required to prevent the bizarre behavior we observed with Bing Talk a few weeks ago.

And this is true twice as much because “OpenAI’s newest huge language model might power my AI.” The Verge reports that Snap is using the “Foundry” new OpenAI enterprise package, which OpenAI secretly launched earlier this month. It provides businesses exclusive access to OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and “DV” models on the cloud. According to several AI scientists, the rumored high-powered successor to GPT-3, “DV,” may be equal to GPT-4.

In other words, ChatGPT might not be as quick or as precise as the “hallucinations” Snap referenced in its news release. And despite the cautions, many might trust it given the other GPT models’ strong persuasiveness. As more commercial services powered by GPT go live in the coming months, it’s something to watch.

The Effects of Sleeping for 60 Days Straight on the Human Body

Interestingly, 20 young people were experimented with 60 days of sleep in the winter. But what happens to the body when it is completely deprived of physical activity?

The Journal of Clinical Nutrition notes that the purpose of this study, according to the researchers, was to get an answer to this very question.

In this unique experiment, 20 perfectly healthy young people took part, who spent two months in bed, their lower limbs were above the level of their heads, ate, slept and relieved themselves in bed, that is, they never got out of bed during the entire period. constantly monitored by an international team of scientists.

Scientists from the University of Patta looked at the participants’ metabolism and how well their bodies control their blood sugar levels. It became clear to them that the lack of movement (an inactive lifestyle) negatively affects this indicator. And that the blood sugar levels of all participants increased by 6 percent during the day and by 10 percent at night, and the body’s ability to break down sugar decreased by 24 percent, compared to what it was before the experiment began. . This change also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

It should be noted that this experiment was carried out at the initiative of the European Space Agency in order to study the effect of a long inactive stay in a spacecraft on the health of participants in deep space flights. The results of this experiment are also important on the ground. Because millions of people spend long periods of time in bed due to injury or chronic disease.

Based on the results of this experiment, doctors can develop ways to reduce the impact of a sedentary lifestyle on the health of inactive patients during their treatment.

It should be noted that a special low-calorie diet with a daily dose of vitamin D3 did not change anything in this matter.

According to the researchers, the participants’ blood sugar levels would have risen even more if they hadn’t reduced the number of calories in their diet. These data highlight that a simple diet is not enough to prevent the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

6 Successful Website Tips You Should Know

6 Successful Website Tips You Should Know

Most experienced entrepreneurs will tell you that no company is capable of advertising itself properly and accomplishing major success without having a top-quality website. And it seems like now, more than ever that’s essential.

But what’s so beneficial about owning a site? Well, for starters, it’s going to boost your visibility and make you a lot more relevant, which is of huge importance these days when competition is truly fierce.

Therefore, if you want to ensure you have a top-notch website, you need to take several steps that are going to help you accomplish that. If you’re looking for some tips, then scroll below to uncover them.

Do You Even Know How To Make A Website?

If the answer is no, yet you want to have a first-class website, then it’s time to rely on someone who can. In these instances, you do not want to risk anything, meaning that you should consider only someone who has a plethora of experience.

Who am I thinking of? I am referring to skilled web design experts who are capable of developing breathtaking sites. If I were you, I would opt for someone who is familiar with Figma tools.

But what does Figma even mean? Namely, it’s an amazing tool that allows you to make spectacular visual designs, however, if you want them into something that’s functional, then you need an omnipotent platform, like Webflow.

This entire process can be very complex if you do not have the necessary skills and knowledge. So I would advise you to opt for a Figma Webflow guru who is going to be able to convert all those outstanding designs into websites. Figma design tool is one of the most popular design tools in the world that is in wide use by many web design developers.

Do You Have A Domain?

Now, that you found a way to create a superb website, it is time to take the next step and that is to have your own domain name. If you decide to take this step, please avoid utilizing a free subdomain.

Well, that’s because your company won’t look professional then. That’s okay if you’re not a businessman, however, if you are then no one is going to take your business seriously if you’re using a free subdomain.

Therefore, I suggest having a real domain name because only this way, you’ll be able to showcase how professional you are and that you are ready to invest money in your firm in order to take it to the next level.

Be Sure Your Website Is Not Too Complex And Is Unique

I know that you want to leave a great impression when it comes to this, however, it wouldn’t be a good idea to have a site that’s too complex to navigate. After all, a vast majority of people want to visit a web page that looks lovely, however, where they can easily get all the relevant information about a specific brand, service, and product.

And that’s exactly how your homepage is supposed to look. It needs to contain all the answers to their potential questions and send a message they’ll be able to understand. If you’re not sure what it is supposed to contain, then just put yourself in their shoes and think of all the questions you would ask as a customer.

Have Properly-Defined Calls To Action

Your website must be direct with its visitors, meaning that you should clearly showcase what you want them to do. For example, you can employ phrases such as, “Use the discount now”, “Subscribe to our newsletter”, and “Register for free today”.

You get the point, right? Once you determine your page structure, then you should sketch out all your content sections and maintain properly-defined CTAs, then layer in conversion opportunities, such as alert bars, pop-ups, and many others.

Don’t Forget the Contact Forms

If somebody wants to contact you, then it would be amazing if you provide them with a contact form instead of just giving them an email to copy/paste into their mailbox. Contact forms are generally much more effective, plus they gather data and track conversions.

And Thank You Pages

Once they are done filling out the form, they should be redirected to a “thank you” page. Why is this a good idea? Well, with it, you’ll be able to track your goals in Google Analytics, plus you will get another opportunity to offer visitors a subscription to a newsletter, to follow you on social media platforms, etc.

And Thank You Pages

Now, that I put together all these useful website tips, I honestly hope that you will implement all of them because there’s no need to remind you once again, that without a great website, there’s no bright future.

Uncovering the Secrets of Salt Desert Honeycombs

Scientists have unraveled the mystery of the mysterious “honeycomb” patterns found in salt deserts around the world.

These places are some of the most extreme and inhospitable places on Earth, and their bizarre polygonal structures attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.

Salt deserts can be found in areas such as the Badwater Basin in Death Valley, California and the Salar de Uyuni in Chile.

A new study suggests that the shape and size of the “honeycomb” pattern is caused by the movement of salt water (with a high concentration of dissolved salt) in the soil below the surface.

The constant size of the elements and the growth rate of the patterns could also be related to this, say scientists from the University of Nottingham Trent and Graz University of Technology in Austria.

It was previously believed that the salt crust in the desert dries up and forms cracks around which “honeycomb” patterns grow.

Other scientists have also suggested that the salt crust is constantly growing and bending due to lack of space, forming indistinct patterns.

However, none of the theories explains the fixed size of the “honeycomb” shape, which always ranges from one to two meters.

Dr Lucas Göring, associate professor in the School of Science and Technology at the University of Nottingham Trent, said: “In the salt flats, the first and almost the only thing you see is an endless jumble of ordered hexagons and other shapes. patterns on the surface reflect the slow rise of salt water. “In soil, the phenomenon is a bit like convection cells forming in a thin layer of boiling water. Despite their beauty, winds blowing over salt marshes are the main source of atmospheric dust, and our results will help to understand such processes in desert conditions.”

The scientists conducted lab experiments to see how salt water moves in sandy soil and analyzed patterns under various conditions.

And in two field studies in California, scientists observed patterns in nature and collected samples to show that currents within the Earth reflect patterns seen on the surface.

The salt flats in which these patterns occur are not dry, and very saline groundwater often reaches and sinks directly under the salt crust.

Although this water could be quickly accessed by digging it by hand, it would be too salty to drink.

When this brine evaporates under the hot summer sun, the salt remains, making the groundwater directly below the surface more saline and therefore heavier than the fresh water lurking below.

If this difference in salinity is large enough, salt water near the surface begins to sink down, while fresh water rises from below.

The study suggests that when convective ridges develop next to each other in the Earth, they shrink together and form hexagonal “honeycomb” patterns along the edges that dunk the brine.

And when there is a particularly high percentage of salt, salt also crystallizes on the surface. Over time, the resulting crust forms raised humps and edges that create a “honeycomb” pattern.

The study, which involved the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, the University of Southampton, the University of Leeds, the University of Gotting and the University of Oxford, is published in Physical Review X.

Discussions You Have on ChatGPT Can be Saved for Later Viewing

ChatGPT scarcely needs an introduction at this stage. The chatbot caught everyone’s attention late last year and hasn’t let go since, assuring us that it can routinely pass the Turing Test while providing answers to queries and creating new stuff. Like AI, ChatGPT’s features are evolving at a rate few could have imagined. You can preserve your discussions without copying and pasting them elsewhere as one example of such a function.

ChatGP T_

How to preserve talks with ChatGPT for later

You may have noticed this change if you use ChatGPT mostly on your computer. ChatGPT has included a new sidebar on the desktop that displays all of your previous discussions (at least all of the conversations ChatGPT saved). You don’t need to utilize ChatGPT on your computer to view your prior chats. If you use the ChatGPT online app on your smartphone to ask questions, as I do, you can access this new sidebar by tapping the hamburger menu in the top-left corner of the screen.

Each chat’s title is generated by ChatGPT based on the first query you provide. Cool to witness in action is: As ChatGPT responds to your query, the heading reads “New chat.” When done, it gives the chat a new name that accurately reflects what it said. For instance, I questioned ChatGPT, “What mathematical ideas are crucial to understanding when learning to code?” After responding, the chat’s name changed to “Math for Coding.”

You can rename the conversation if you don’t like the name ChatGPT provided it. Choose the problematic chat, press the pencil symbol to rename it, and then click the checkmark to save it.

ChatGPT_

These discussions still need to be backed up in this way, at least not in the conventional sense, even though there is no reason to believe ChatGPT will stop saving them in the future. You have a fascinating conversation with the chatbot. You wish to record it for future reference (or to share with your friends). Then, it is still a good idea to copy and paste it into a note on your computer or phone.

How to remove talks from ChatGPT

The automatic cataloging of prior chats may be valuable to certain people rather than others. As ChatGPT was initially extremely ephemeral, you would have a chat, end it, and be prepared to begin something fresh the following time.

It is simple to erase conversations: Choose the chat you wish to delete, then select the trash can icon. You may also erase your previous talks with the “Clear discussions” option at the bottom of the sidebar.

Dr. Farooq El-Baz Weighs In on Dutch GoogleEarth Earthquake Forecasts

Director of the Center for Space Studies at Boston University, Farouk El-Baz, commented on the predictions of the Dutchman Frank Hogrebits, saying that the connection between earthquakes and astronomy has not yet been scientifically proven, although it is possible.

And about the expectations of Hogarbits, who predicted the occurrence of several earthquakes in some areas, and his connection with the movement of the planets, Al-Baz said in a statement on the Egyptian channel “He”: “There may be a connection between earthquakes and astronomy, but so far there are no scientific tools for this.”

He explained: “The earth revolves around itself and around the sun, and when there is a strong attraction from the other side, the antigravity of the sun can lead to movements of the earth’s crust, but this has not yet been scientifically proven, but it exists because the earth’s crust floats above an unstable land mass. “.

And he continued: “The land on which we live is not solid, but blocks located above the sticky layer, thousands of kilometers deep, which means that the blocks above it, including the continents, stand above the sticky layer, and for some At that time, these blocks will move, and as a result of this movement, earthquakes will occur.

Al-Baz pointed out that earthquakes are impossible to predict “because they are blocks in the earth’s crust, and what moves them is hundreds of kilometers below them, and so far we have no scientific progress that monitors this” .

Regarding the connection of dam construction in Turkey with the recent earthquake, Al-Baz said: “The connection of dams with the earthquake has not been proven, but it is a scientifically based opinion, because there are faults in the earth’s crust, as a result of the movement of the continents, and then when the water rises above the area, containing faults, it can contribute to the movement.

Regarding the possibility of a tsunami, Al-Baz said: “There is no scientific basis for predicting the occurrence of a tsunami in the countries of the Mediterranean”, and explained that “there is nothing new in the sea that could affect its coasts to such an extent.” tsunami”.

EA is Asking Players to See if They Want Further Remakes of The Dead Space Series

The Dead Space reboot shipped two million copies in the first week after its release. Although this underperformed by predicted numbers, it was still strong for a re-release, and the response was mostly favorable.

The Dead Space_

Players’ interest in additional Dead Space remakes, particularly for the second and third games, is being surveyed by EA. Two important questions in a purported poll leaked on Twitter ask precisely that, and while it’s not a guarantee that the games will appear, it shows EA’s willingness to make them maybe.

Is It Commercially Sensible?

According to reports, the Dead Space remake’s box office performance was much below expectations. It should have sold more copies than it should have, falling far short of expectations and pushing the development project over budget. In any case, EA is willing to accept the loss and perhaps produce additional remakes of Dead Space.

The reference to the purported survey that EA is disseminating is as follows:

Although nothing has been officially confirmed, easter eggs in the first Dead Space remake ultimately led fans to believe that a Dead Space 2 remake would be inevitable.

Since the game’s release, the addition of the Isaac Clarke bundle in Fortnite is the sole change to the Dead Space universe that has occurred.

The Dead Space_

In the end, it doesn’t matter since even if a remake of Dead Space 2 were in the works, it would have been revealed only one month after the first game’s debut. For now, EA is content with testing the waters through focused polls.

Watch this Space right now.

Exploring the Pre-Industrial Climate: Were We in a Cooling Phase?

Over the past century, the Earth’s average temperature has risen rapidly by about 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit).

It’s hard to challenge the evidence. They come from thermometers and other sensors around the world.

But what about the thousands of years before the Industrial Revolution, before thermometers, and before humans warmed the climate by releasing heat-trapping carbon dioxide from fossil fuels?

Did the Earth’s temperature rise or fall during this time?

Although scientists know more about the last 6,000 years than any other multi-millennial time period, studies of this long-term trend in global temperature have come to conflicting conclusions.

To try to address this discrepancy, we conducted a comprehensive global assessment of existing data, including natural archives such as tree rings and seafloor sediments, and climate models.

Findings by Eli Brodman, PhD researcher in climate science, and Darrell Kaufman, professor of earth and environmental sciences at Northern Arizona University, published Feb. 15, 2023, suggest ways to improve climate prediction so you don’t miss out on some. important slow climate responses that say normal.

Global warming in context

Scientists who study paleoclimate, or paleoclimate, have been looking for temperature data for a long, long time, long before thermometers and satellites existed.

We have two options: we can find information about the past climate stored in natural archives, or we can simulate the past using climate models.

There are many natural archives that record climate change over time. The annual rings that form annually on trees, stalagmites, and corals can be used to restore previous temperatures.

Similar data can be found in eternal ice and in small shells found in sediments that accumulate over time on the ocean floor or in lakes. This is an alternative to thermometer-based measurements.

For example, changing the width of annual rings can register temperature fluctuations. If the weather during the growing season was very cold, the year formed that year would be thinner than a year with warmer weather.

Another heat factor has been found in seabed sediments, in the remains of tiny ocean-dwelling creatures called foraminifera. When a foraminifera is alive, the chemical composition of its shell changes depending on the ambient temperature.

As they are used up, they sink and are buried under other debris over time, forming layers of sediment on the ocean floor. Paleoclimatologists can then extract sediment cores and chemically analyze shells in those layers to determine their composition and age, sometimes going back thousands of years. Climate models, another tool for studying past environments, are mathematical representations of the Earth’s climate system. The relationship between the atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere is formulated in such a way as to create the best copy of reality.

Climate models are used to study current conditions, predict changes in the future, and reconstruct the past.

For example, scientists can input past concentrations of greenhouse gases that we know from information stored in tiny bubbles in ancient ice, and a model can use that information to model past temperatures. The latest climate data and details from nature archives are used to verify their accuracy.

Climate models are continuous in space and time, but although they are often very clever, they never capture every detail of the climate system.

ancient temperature mystery

In a new review paper, researchers evaluate climate theory, surrogate data and modeling with a focus on global temperature indices.

They carefully studied the natural processes that affect climate, including long-term changes in the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, the concentration of greenhouse gases, volcanic eruptions and the strength of solar thermal energy.

They also studied important climate feedbacks, such as changes in land cover and sea ice, that could affect global temperatures.

For example, there is strong evidence that the Arctic had less sea ice and more vegetation around 6,000 years ago than it did in the 19th century. This could darken the Earth’s surface, causing it to absorb more heat.

The two types of data give different answers regarding the trend in the Earth’s temperature 6,000 years before today’s global warming.

Natural archives generally show that the Earth’s average temperature nearly 6,000 years ago was about 0.7 degrees Celsius (1.3 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than the 19th century average, and then gradually declined until the Industrial Revolution.

Meanwhile, climate models generally show a slight warming trend consistent with a gradual increase in carbon dioxide as farming societies develop over the millennia after the northern hemisphere ice sheets retreated.

How to improve climate forecasts

The researchers’ assessment points to some ways to improve climate predictions.

For example, they found that models would be more reliable if they fully represented specific climate responses.

One climate model experiment that included an increase in vegetation in some areas 6,000 years ago was able to simulate the global temperature peak seen in surrogate records, unlike most other simulations that do not include this extended vegetation.

A better understanding and integration of these and other observations will be essential as scientists continue to improve our ability to predict future changes.

Warning: Protect Yourself from New Apple Phone Theft and Unauthorized Apple Pay Use

A just-released report highlights a new phenomenon in the world of iPhone theft: Thieves spy on victims’ phone numbers before stealing the devices, aiming to gain access to their personal data, including Apple and banking apps. Pay.

The lengthy investigation, published by the Wall Street Journal and including interviews with a number of victims, argues that Apple should support additional protections for its phones, making it difficult for the thief to access user data even if the thief knows the secret code for the device.

According to the report, all of the victims the newspaper interviewed said their phones were stolen while they were away in public places in the evening. Some victims reported having phones stolen from their hands, while others said they were physically assaulted and threatened. Once the thief has the passcode for the iPhone, he can easily reset the Apple account password and disable the Find My iPhone feature. This makes it difficult for the device owner to track its location or remotely wipe it via iCloud. The thief can also remove other trusted devices from the account to add an extra layer of protection for the hacker.

However, the report cautions that the risk of iPhone theft doesn’t stop there. Once the thief obtains the iPhone password, he can use the “Apple Pay” and “Apple Cash” electronic payment applications and access the banking applications using the passwords stored in the “iCloud Keychain” password service. The thief can also unlock the Apple Card by finding the last four digits of the victim’s social security number in the archived photos in apps like the Photos app or Google Drive. Also, accessing other passwords stored in iCloud Keychain allows the thief to do more damage, as he can gain access to email accounts and other sensitive information.

Security Tips

The report released a series of steps iPhone users can take to maintain the security of their personal data and reduce the risk of falling victim to this type of theft. Recommendations include changing your device’s passcode from a four-digit code to one that includes a mix of letters and numbers, making it difficult for snoopers to memorize the code.

This can be done in the Settings app under the “Face ID & Passcode” section, then Change Passcode. The phone unlock function can also be used by Face ID or Touch ID as much as possible instead of the passcode when you leave in public places to prevent thieves from spying on the passcode. In cases in which need to enter a passcode, users can put their hands over the screen to hide the code entry.

Interestingly, this phenomenon is not only exclusive to iPhone phones, but can be applied to any other phone. Therefore, the protection of your devices and data in stored them should be a priority for all smartphone users. We recommend that you follow basic security measures, such as users changing account passwords periodically, avoiding passwords that can be easily guessed, and enabling two-factor authentication. Password managers can also be used to generate strong, random passwords for all accounts.

Apple responds

Apple responded to this report by saying it is working hard to protect its users from new threats. However, the company did not provide specific details on next steps that can be taken to increase security. The report suggested adding new protections to iOS and supporting more account recovery options.

South Korea Unveils Sea Minesweepers with Unmanned Submarines

Naval News has announced that South Korea is working on a project to develop a new generation of sea minesweepers for its army.

South Korea’s Defense Procurement Program Administration (DAPA) has announced the start of development of the new MSH-II naval minesweepers.

“The new ships will replace the old Gangyeong-class sea minesweepers that were in service with the South Korean army between 1986 and 1994, and will work with the new Yangyang ships of the South Korean Navy,” the publication added.

Unlike previous generations of sea minesweepers, the MSH-II ships will be equipped with robots and small uninhabited submarines capable of detecting and destroying sea mines so that the ship’s crew is away from the danger of these mines being detonated.

These ships will have fiberglass hulls, similar to modern Russian minesweepers, and each ship will displace approximately 700 tons. It will also be equipped with 20 mm M61 machine guns and 7.62 mm M60 machine guns.

Revealed: The App Social Network Spying On You – And It’s Surprisingly Popular!

Modern technology has put us all under the microscope, so we have become monitors from the electronic devices we are dealing with completely. And what about the sites of social network that have become an addiction for everyone?

The sites of social media they seem to track your every move, collecting huge amounts of personal data from millions of reluctant users, but some collect more information than others.

TikTok is the largest data collection tool, collecting more information than any other app from social mediaaccording to one studio conducted by the Internet 2.0 cybersecurity firm and reported by the Daily Mail.

The world’s most popular video-sharing app, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has around 1 billion active users in all over the world, but has more than twice as many trackers in its source code as the media industry, according to the newspaper report.

The TikTok bot surreptitiously collects user data to fine-tune the algorithm that powers its main feed. But it can also collect information about your Wi-Fi network and SIM card, which raises concerns about how that data is used.

But the company is not alone in this, as Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat ranked first among the prime eight of the top 22 companies absorbing the most data, while Facebook was ranked as one of the best companies, ranked 16th in Internet 2.0 evaluation.

Using his software Malcore, Internet 2.0 gave each app a score based on how much personal information it collected, with TikTok earning a total score of 63.1, causing the app and its requirements to be described as “overly intrusive and unnecessary to run the app” .

The results of the studio they arrive in amidst a security dispute over how the information collected by the companies is being used social media.

TikTok responded by saying, “This report appears to be based on the same misleading analyzes of Internet 2.0 that were conducted last year. Recent reports and studies contradict their conclusions. TikTok is not unique in the amount of information it collects, and in fact collects less data than many popular mobile apps.

David Robinson, a former Australian Army intelligence officer and co-founder of Internet 2.0, said the company had “long-term concerns about privacy and security” about TikTok.

Alan Woodward, professor of cybersecurity at the University of Surrey, said: “TikTok seems to collect information and you have to ask yourself why, as well as create a comprehensive profile on someone. The type of data is so vast that it’s hard not to conclude that it is being used for more.” From just marketing and building types of people profiles to marketing. And that, I think, is a concern, especially in the current geopolitical environment in which China is establishing itself as a rather assertive state actor. “

The Best Shave Club For 2023 : Dollar Shave Club, Harry’s and More

You still need to buy all your razors at drugstores. You can buy better items online at lower prices with a shaving club. And if you sign up for a shaving club, you can choose the schedule and number of deliveries that work best for you.

Not only that, but many of these services offer more than just razors. For example, they offer shaving gel, shaving butter, body wash, and products for sensitive skin after shaving. Dollar Shave Club, Billie, Harry’s, and other shaving subscriptions try to save you money over buying shaving cream and gel all at once. When you sign up for Amazon, you can get discounts on your desired razors.

It’s not just a place for men to get shaves, either. Many of these services are for men and women, even if women have beards.

Want to switch from the disposable razors at the pharmacy to a monthly subscription? This information will help you find the best shave club for you. We will keep this list up to date.

Best men skin care products for 2023

Dollar Shave Club, A razor subscription service that went viral in 2012 offers three razors for your daily shave: two blades, four blades, and six-lama. The handle and extra blades cost less than $10 a month, and you only have to pay once for the handle.

Dollar Shave started as a razor subscription service, but now they sell a wide range of products for men’s skincare, such as lotions and soaps for the face and body, deodorants, and shaving aids.

For your first order, Dollar Shave Club gives you a $5 bundle with a handle, two replacement cartridge refills, and shaving cream. Your refills for your razor and shaving cream will come in two weeks, and they will cost you about $25. (or more if you add additional products). Add body wash, face wash, shampoo, toothpaste, and a toothbrush to your Dollar Shave starter kit and refueling shipments.

Even though the Dollar Shave brand is aimed at men, I used to buy and use razor blades from the Dollar Shave Club.

Harry
Harry

Harry’s Products for shaving and grooming are characterized by simplicity, style, and a higher level of craftsmanship. Razor cartridges come in two flavors, and handle options are limited to two—$ 20 for a non-slip rubber grip on his Winston handle. The Truman, which is rubber-coated and comes in orange, blue, and green, costs $9.

Essential shaving care packages from Dollar Shave Club and Harry’s come with a razor blade cartridge and shaving gel for just $ 5. You get eight fresh cartridges for $ 15 (with shaving gel for an additional $ 6) every two, three, or five months, depending on how frequently you shave, with a subscription to a Harry-like shave club.

Besides razors, Harry’s offers face wash, aftershave balm, soap, and other personal care products.

P.S. I’ve tried their razors and had beautiful results, too. Regarding happy legs, Harry’s brand Flamingo sells women’s razors, but it does not provide a monthly package.

Billie shave
Billie shave

Billie’s, As the owner of a shave club, my goal is to sell high-quality razors and body care products for women at a fraction of what they cost men. Women’s care and grooming products often have a “pink fee,” which means they cost more just because they are made for women.

The company only sells one kind of razor, and it comes in five colors that would look good on Instagram. It has five blades and a carbon soap headband around the blades to help the razor move smoothly and make shaving more comfortable.

Billie’s $9 starter set has a handle, two cartridges, and a magnet holder to keep the razor safe in the shower. The company sends you four new cartridges each month for $9. (or whatever frequency you specify for blade refills). Billie also sells body wash, lotion, and shave cream.

This brand’s Body Hair project celebrates and normalizes body hair in women, whether they shave or not. Anyone can post a picture of their body hair, and you can look at what others have posted. This approach is refreshing in a world that often shames women for any flaw in their bodies.

Bevel shave system
Bevel shave system

Shaving coarse facial hair is challenging, but shaving frizzy or curly hair is even more difficult. Bevel’s shaving kit was created for men of color to address their unique skin and shaving demands.

The shaving kit comes with a shaving brush, skin oil, shaving cream, and an aftershave balm, just like what you’d find in a barbershop. These skin creams contain moisturizing oils that free your face and neck from pimples, razor burns, and ingrown hairs.

You use a single-blade safety razor instead of a cartridge with several blades to get rid of the hair. The set costs $76 and comes with refilled razor blades, oil, shaving cream, and conditioner from Bevel.

Supply shave
Supply shave

The Supply razor is for men who enjoy a razor shave or who consider themselves hipsters. This beautiful single-edged razor is manufactured of aircraft stainless steel and uses injector-style blades that are easy to change. His distinctive design sets him apart from other safety razors. Oh, and this high-end razor comes with a 100-year warranty.

Because there is a “starter set.” For $135, you get a razor handle, six months’ worth of blades, a standard shaving setting, a shaving brush, shaving cream, and aftershave. The razor costs $75, and a pack of eight new blades costs $6. The maker says that these blades will last for months.

Like the Bevel edge, the single Supply edge of the razor is made to prevent skin irritation, razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and razor burns. He is different from other safety razors because he has a unique, high-quality design.

Yes, these are very high prices, but Supply gives you a 100-day free trial. You can get your money back if you try it and don’t like it.

Supply is also selling a few extras. You can get a beautiful but unnecessary, Custody in the skin for $39.

Gillette, I’ve heard that name before. I’m sure you’ve used one of his razors at some point in your life. In response to the growing number of subscription razors, Gillette has started its own shave club.

The Shaving subscription offers three starter kits for men:

  • SkinGuard – $ 10 for one refill for razor and two blades
  • Mach3 – $ 8 for one razor handle and eight razor cartridges + $ 10 for four refills
  • Planet type – $ 20 for one refill for razor and eight blades

Some of these prices are lower than Amazon’s, and Subscribe and Save isn’t available for all Gillette refills on Amazon. Gillette On Demand is a great choice if you want razor blades that you can set and forget.

Also, if you are a woman, Gillette lets you order the Venus razor. The $7 deal includes a free handle, cartridge, shower gel, and hook. Each refill has four cartridges, so the cost of all refills is $18. You can sign up for refills every month, every three months, or every six months.

Uncovering Two New Types of Salt Water Could Revolutionize Chemistry!

Two newly discovered forms of frozen salt water could help scientists unravel the mystery of the solar system’s ice-covered moons.

Subjected to higher pressures and lower temperatures than are found naturally on Earth, the atoms in hydrated sodium chloride, better known as salt water ice, have organized themselves into previously unknown structures that contain a much higher percentage of water molecules than salts. .

This may explain the strange chemical composition of the material on the surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa, which turned out to be more watery than scientists expected.

“Fundamental discoveries are rarely made in science these days,” says Earth scientist and astronaut Baptiste Journeau of the University of Washington. “Salt and water are well known in terrestrial conditions. But then we are completely ignorant. And now we have these planetary bodies, which probably contain familiar compounds “For us, but under very strange circumstances.”

When salt and water are combined, sodium chloride and hydrogen peroxide, the salt molecules dissolve into the water molecules, forming a solution. The presence of salt lowers the freezing point of the solution compared to unsalted water, but as the temperature continues to drop under typical Earth weather conditions, it will eventually freeze.

When they do this, the molecules form a rigid lattice structure known as a hydrate. On Earth (outside the lab), this structure has only one composition: one molecule of salt for every two molecules of water.

On moons such as Europa and Ganymede, which orbits Jupiter, and on Saturn’s moon Enceladus, scientists have also found evidence of salt and water, but the conditions in which they are found are somewhat different from Earth’s.

And the surfaces of these distant worlds are subject to intense cold in the near void of space, far from the sun. Beneath the ice sheets are oceans that in some cases can be 100 times thicker than the deepest waters on Earth, causing extreme pressures and temperatures.

The researchers decided to study the effect of salt on ice production. They compressed a small block of salt water in a diamond anvil cell in cold conditions, creating a pressure 25,000 times Earth’s atmospheric pressure, while lowering the temperature to -123 degrees Celsius (-190 degrees Fahrenheit).

“We were trying to measure how the salt affected the amount of snow we could get because the salt acts like an antifreeze,” Journo explains. grow”.

Under the conditions of their experiment, the researchers saw the emergence of two new layouts of the salt and water molecules. One showed two molecules of salt for every 17 molecules of water. The other contains 13 water molecules per molecule of salt. Both are very different from a single salt, and this is water as observed naturally on Earth and is consistent with the chemical signatures of water as observed on icy moons.

The researchers say the key factor is pressure, which compresses molecules and forces them to find new ways to coexist. But even when the pressure was released, one of the newly identified hydrates, containing 17 water molecules, remained stable down to -50 degrees Celsius. This indicates that they can be found here on Earth, perhaps under the ice of Antarctica.

Further research is needed to determine if this discovery can solve the mystery of the icy moon.

Study published in Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences.

The Best Smart Locks For 2023

Even though they look like something from the future, smart locks are real and shockingly cheap. You can lock, unlock, and keep an eye on your front door using an app on your phone. You don’t even have to leave your house. All you have to do is figure out which smart lock fits your needs best.

Choosing the best smart lock for your home. There are a number of things at play. Some people have to think ahead and limit the code that users can write. For some people, it is important to have a door lock that can be used with a standard door lock instead of replacing the deadbolt. There are also things you can do after the fact, like get an auto door lock or a padlock that works with your current security system. At the moment, these are the best smart locks on the market. As I test more, I’ll add them to this list.

August Wi-Fi Smart Lock
August Wi-Fi Smart Lock

You can replace your current lock with an August lock and a DoorSense open/close sensor using the August Wi-Fi Smart lock. This smart lock model has Wi-Fi built in, so you don’t need to buy a $80 Connect module to use it from afar.

The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is 45% smaller than its predecessors and looks like mashed potatoes. This device makes it easy to use Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon’s Alexa to control things with your voice and connect them to your smart home. Everything that happens in front of your door will be recorded in a database that you can access at any time.

You can use your Android or iOS smartphone’s Wi-Fi to unlock and lock your door when you’re not at home. CNET’s Editors’ Choice Award went to the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock because it is a good smart lock that is easy to set up.

August (2017) Smart Lock
August (2017) Smart Lock

August’s 3rd Generation Smart Lock and Connect bundle comes with a DoorSense open/close sensor and the Connect Wi-Fi Module. The low-profile retrofit design means that the deadbolt lock doesn’t need to be taken off or replaced.

The August Connect Connect smart lock has cutting-edge technologies built into it. Voice control is available through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and in August, a mobile app will be available to allow access from anywhere. You can’t use Apple HomeKit or Z-Wave to connect to a smart hub. Still, the August Smart Lock is an affordable smart lock that lets you get in without a key. This is your best option if you don’t want to take off the lock on your unit.

A study by PCMag and Bitdefender in August 2020 found that August and Yale Android apps that used Connect modules were vulnerable to an exploit that could leak Wi-Fi credentials while the apps were being installed. Even if the device goes into configuration mode and the August Android app is up-to-date, the device won’t be vulnerable to the first attack if both the Connect firmware and the August Android app are up-to-date.

Yale Assure Lock SL
Yale Assure Lock SL

The Yale SL Deadbolt Touchscreen, which comes in three different finishes and has a touchscreen keyboard that looks nice, comes in three different colours. With the new smart deadbolt kit, which has an August Wi-Fi module and DoorSense sensors, you can use the August app to open or close your door. This lock works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit.

If you need to link the door lock to other smart home devices, you can get a version with Zigbee or Z-Wave modules that you can take out. One of these modules will cost you $50.

Tyler Lizenby

The $235 Schlage Encode does not cover everything. You can only make 100 different user codes, and you won’t be able to use HomeKit. I really like the fact that you don’t need Z-wave, Zigbee, or a WiFi module to connect this lock to your smart home.

Built-in Wi-Fi is a great feature, and it works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant by simply connecting your account through their app. He is also compatible with Amazon Key, a service that delivers things to your home. There are both modern and traditional styles, as well as many different finishes.

Other models we tested

During our search for the best smart lock, we also tried the following products:

Nest and Yale worked together to make a lock with a touch keyboard that is based on Google. Even though this Nest app smart lock costs $279, it doesn’t have the same smart home connectivity features as other keyless locks that cost the same or less.

The Hampton Connected Door Lock Array, which costs $299, has a solar-powered backup battery and Wi-Fi built in. However, it doesn’t work with HomeKit or Google Assistant.

The price of the second-generation Kevo Bluetooth latch from Kwikset is $222. Kevo is a nice guy. If you don’t need remote access, it’s easy to turn your door into a smart one with a Bluetooth smart lock. If you want to use Kevo Plus, you have to buy the connection module. You can hack Keyless Access with a key or an app on your phone.

There are some problems with Schlage’s $175 Sense Smart Lock, like the fact that it’s harder to set up than its sibling, the Encode. You’ll also need a Wi-Fi adapter for your Schlage lock if you want to use it with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Things To Remember

Even though smart locks make life easier, it’s important to remember that their main purpose is to keep people safe. Care must be taken with safety features. Voice unlocks won’t work without a PIN code. Only give door access codes to people you know and trust. It’s also a good idea to turn on the auto-lock feature so that if you forget, the door will lock itself after you.

If your smart home relies on Wifi voice command assistants and not a hub, you need a lock that connects to your Wi-Fi network (or at least a Wi-Fi adapter). Think about whether you want a simple, old-fashioned design or a keypad that replaces the deadbolt (you will need a new physical key for locking).

There are many benefits to having a smart lock in your smart home, no matter which one you choose. With these tips and the best smart lock on your door, you’ll be able to control who has access to your home, whether it’s family, roommates, service providers, or guests.

Best Car lifts For Home Garages in 2023

Some people’s relationship with automobiles is as simple as “driver” and “vehicle”. Others see a car as more than just a mode of transportation; they see it as a companion, a place to sleep, and even a place to call home. All of a car’s functions are delegated to one person: the owner.

Many of us enjoy working on our vehicles, regardless of whether it involves getting under the hood. However, the latter is far simpler and more secure than the former. Equipment failures or accidents are not an option when we elevate our autos to see what’s underneath.

Fortunately, a proper home car lift is far more solid and secure than a standard jack. Allows for additional space in the garage and can even be used as a parking lift to relieve tyre pressure while parked. In terms of a home vehicle lift, what should you look for? Who knows when you’ve discovered the one?

Experts and real customers have weighed in on the best home garage car lift currently on the market. Lift arm material, truck adapter, and more have all been taken into account when determining our picks for the best lifts. If you want to learn more about choosing the perfect auto lift and having it installed properly, keep reading for expert advice. You should be conscious of things like ceiling height, garage space (even if your garage is small), and more.

Ready? Our list of the best vehicle lifts for your garage is constantly updated, so grab a drip tray and get started.

QuickJack BL-5000SLX
QuickJack BL-5000SLX

You should be able to work on your car in more than just your garage. If you want to ask a friend what they think, being able to raise your vehicle at their house could be helpful.

The QuickJack BL-5000SLX is a stylish way to deal with this problem. The BL-5000SLX is a portable car lift that weighs 215 pounds and can lift to 5,000 pounds. Even though it has a lower lift height than the other models on this list (17.5 inches), it is still easy to get in and out of.

The BL-5000SLX portable lift is also the best value for money when it comes to home garage car lifts because it is so cheap. The cheapest model on the list costs $1,050, but if you don’t need a high lift clearance and want your vehicle lift to be easier to move, this could be the best choice. The BL-7000SLX is another product from QuickJack. It can lift to 7,000 pounds.

the hw-10koh

Most people drive sedans, so your vehicle lift’s weight limit shouldn’t be a big deal. If you drive a big car like a truck or SUV, there are other things to consider, like how much weight your vehicle can carry and how much the auto lift can hold.

Because it can hold up to 10,000 pounds, the HW-10KOH two-post lift from APlusLift is a great choice for heavier vehicles. All Chevy Silverado pick-up trucks and large Ford F-series SUVs can be lifted.

This car lift is the one that sells the most on Amazon—customers like how easy it is to use and how helpful the customer service team is.

Triumph NT-9FP
Triumph NT-9FP

Like the best four-post lift, the best two-post bang is also a Triumph from National Auto Tools. This Triumph model has two-stage and three-stage lifting arms that can be used for symmetrical and asymmetrical lifts.

Even though the Triumph NT-9FP lift can lift to 72 inches, it can still be used in garages that aren’t big enough for that lift height. As you work on your car, you can adjust the lift system’s latches to heighten it.

Customers at Amazon really like the Triumph NT-9FP. On average, they gave it 4.6 out of 5 stars. Most happy customers say the product’s dependability and a fair price are its best features.

The BendPak MD-6XP
The BendPak MD-6XP
BendPak XPR-10AXLS

The BendPak XPR-10AXLS can lift to 10,000 pounds and has a higher lifting height clearance than the other two-post lifts. With the XPR-10AXLS, taller mechanics, both at work and home, will be able to work on their cars comfortably, no matter how tall they are.

Not all Bendpak lifts are as complicated as this one is regarding how they lift. Instead of lifting chains and screws, BendPak lifts use direct-drive cylinders. This makes lifting smoother, more consistent, and less likely to cause hydraulic fluid to leak.

Because it is still a two-post lift, cars should not be left unattended under the lift while it is being used to lift another car. This is a safety issue.

In comparison to other two-post lifts, BendPak’s XPR-10AXLS has a weight capability of 10,000 pounds and a higher lifting height clearance. With the XPR-10AXLS, taller mechanics (professional or at-home) will be able to work on their vehicles comfortably, regardless of their height.

Many other versions of Bendpak lifts do not have a complex lifting mechanism like this one. For smoother, more consistent lift and reduced risk of hydraulic fluid leakage, the BendPak lifts use direct-drive cylinders instead of lifting chains and screws.

Because it is still a two-post lift, automobiles should not be left unattended under the lift while it is being used to lift another vehicle; this is a safety issue.

How to Pick the Right Car Lift For Your Home Garage

Automobile lifts come in a wide variety of configurations, but the four-post lift, the two-post lift, and the scissor lift are the most prevalent. There are a variety of lifts to choose from, and each of them has a distinct shape that may or may not suit your needs.

It is possible to drive onto a flat metal plane or a set of arms and then park your vehicle before the lift begins. At the corners of each plane, there are four hydraulic posts that raise your vehicle. Hydraulic posts are situated on either side of the plane or arms in a two-post lift design. A scissor lift, on the other hand, utilizes a lifting mechanism comprised of crossbars located beneath the planes of the blades.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each lift method. There isn’t much room for another automobile underneath a scissor lift, but you do have restricted access to the chassis because the lifting mechanism is located just under where the vehicle rests. Two-post lifts are capable of supporting cars, however, they should not be utilized for this purpose. As a last option, four-post lifts are the strongest and most secure, but they are also the most expensive.

Scissor lifts are the more compact car lift option, but parking another vehicle underneath it is out of the question

According to St. Charles, Illinois-based Autobahn Auto Service owner John Velazquez, “Scissors lifts are more compact when down, but can occasionally be a problem in working under the car.” At Velazquez Automobile, Velazquez has more than 18 years of experience in the automotive industry. There are a lot of people that use home scissor lifts to change their car’s wheels for SCCA racing, etc. Not suitable for doing extensive car repairs at home. That’s because many of them support the car in odd places, making the underside more difficult to access. A post lift, whether it has two or four posts, is the finest option. Larger/heavier vehicles require a four-post lift, while a two-post lift is suitable for most commercial shops.

Jamjar.com founder and managing director Andy King concurs. Founded in 1997, Jamjar is a UK-based website that specializes in car-buying comparisons. A low-rise scissor lift might suffice if all you plan to do is change the wheels and brakes.” Even though they’re not as tall as a typical four-post lift, they can nevertheless handle 4.5 tonnes depending on the make and type. Due to the shorter lift, these are more secure and provide less risk.

“If you’re going to be doing a lot of work on your car’s undercarriage and need more space for parts and movement, a two- or four-post raise is what I recommend.” In addition to providing much more space and lifting your automobile higher than a scissor lift, this will help keep you safe. Instead of laying down, you may now work under your car while standing up.”

Getting a car up in the air helps make many repairs that much easier.

Depending on the lift’s design, you may not be able to execute certain duties. Since parking lifts aren’t meant to allow access to the car’s chassis, these lifts can’t be used for routine maintenance. If electricity is an issue, a 4-post car lift might be a better choice. According to JMC Equipment, the hydraulic pump on most four-post lifts only need 115 volts of electricity, whereas the pump on two-post lifts normally requires 220 volts of power.

The size of the arms used in lifts is a common topic of conversation among consumers. The weight capacity rating is more essential than the size of the arms. Car and truck training director Richard Reina says the lifting arms must be adaptable to fit a wide range of vehicles. Reina has worked in the automobile sector for more than 30 years as an engineer, technician, and salesperson. “The weight rating of the lift is crucial, not the size of the arms.”

As King explains, “the lift’s power generation will take into consideration how heavy its own pieces are. The fact that one lift has larger lift arms does not mean it can carry less; they can both lift an additional 4.5 tonnes if you have two lifts each capable of handling 4.5 tonnes, for example.

It’s not the size of the lift arms that counts, but the weight rating of the car lift itself.

Safety is obviously a key concern for many users when it comes to auto lifts, since a car falling to the ground is bad news for everyone involved. Realistically, the chance of injury is lowered if a lift has been verified as safe and you use it correctly. Regardless of the lift’s construction, it will be able to securely hold a vehicle within the specified weight range.

Four-post lifts are less likely than two- or one-post lifts (which, as their names suggest, utilise a single hydraulic lift to raise a car) to have a vehicle tip over simply because of their form, although these mishaps are virtually always caused by user mistake. Because of its greater strength and safety features, the Reina four-post lift is preferred when the lift will also be used for storing items rather than just lifting them, according to her. A four-post lift is more secure than a two-post lift for storing a vehicle for an extended length of time.

When it comes to using any form of a stair lift, it is your responsibility to make sure it is properly certified and that you follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

If you’re looking for a garage lift to store vehicles for longer periods, a four-post list is the safest choice.

Installing a car lift

The appropriate installation of your lift in your garage is just as important as the lift itself and your use of it. A vehicle lift’s safe installation is dictated by a number of parameters, including the machine’s size and power.

Garage car lift installation frequently raises the question: how high should my garage ceiling be to provide for enough clearing area for the lift? What’s best for you depends on your specific position and needs, just like with anything else. However, this is a positive thing. We rarely get the opportunity to design our own garage, so it’s good to know that a wide variety of lifts exist that can meet our needs. Even if your garage isn’t large enough to accommodate a four-post lift with room to park another vehicle beneath it, you may still install a lift that has numerous advantages.

Ceiling height and concrete integrity are a couple of big factors to consider when installing a home garage car lift.

If you’re short on room in your garage, you may want to consider building a lift on your driveway or somewhere else outside. You should avoid doing this, as your lift will be exposed to temperatures and weather conditions for which it wasn’t originally built. If a lift is installed outside, some warranties will be void.

The structural stability of the concrete foundation must also be taken into account when building a car lift. If you’re going to raise a 10,000-pound truck, you’re going to have to distribute the weight in a different way than you would if you were doing a 1,500-pound lift. If you don’t already have a concrete floor in your garage, you’ll need to pour one to make room for the lift.

Recommendation: Eagle Equipment recommends only using reinforced concrete up to 3,000 PSI and allowing at least 4 inches of thickness for lifts up to 10,000 pounds, and at least 6 inches for lifts up to 15,000 pounds. Bendpak, on the other hand, provides a more in-depth breakdown of the company’s own products. Following the manufacturer’s specific basic instructions is essential regardless of whatever product you finally purchase.

BendPak says the typical cost for having a professional install a garage car lift is $500 to $10,000, depending on type

The type of home garage lift you purchase will have an impact on the installation process (portable lifts notwithstanding). Regardless of the type, you should have a professional install the lift to ensure that it is installed properly for your safety and the protection of others. According to Bendpak, a two-post lift installation costs $500, while a four-post lift installation costs $1,000. In-ground lifts, which some models offer, can cost upwards of $10,000 to have installed.

Installation instructions for each lift will vary, but the majority of the work involves putting the lift together and attaching it to the cement foundation. The installation and operation of the equipment will be safer and less likely to face harmful issues if it is handled by professionals, who are better equipped to handle these complicated and time-consuming procedures.

With a portable car lift, you won’t have to worry about the potential added cost of professional installation.

Five things you need to know before you buy and use a home garage car lift

  • Why are you thinking about purchasing a garage auto lift? The type of lift you require will be determined by factors such as whether or not you want to park multiple vehicles on top of each other or whether or not you want to be able to access your car’s chassis more easily.
  • What kind of automobile lift do you need? Your reasons for purchasing a lift will guide you in the right direction, but factors such as cost and lifting capability will also play a role in your decision-making process.
  • Is there enough room on the floor of your garage for a car lift? Make sure your garage floor has enough PSI 3,000 concrete inches to hold the lift of your choosing (or have it checked by a professional). New concrete must be poured if it doesn’t.
  • Who is going to put in your garage lift at your house? This can be a risky and complex task, and it’s best done by a trained professional. The best way to get a car lift installed is to hire a professional who has done it before.
  • Last but not least, what are the specifics of how to use your automobile lift? Make sure you’re aware of all of them so that you don’t end up injuring yourself or damaging your property.
