President of the Saudi Association of Geologists: There are a thousand earthquakes a day in the Red Sea

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Society of Saudi Geologists Abdulaziz bin Laboon confirmed that the Red Sea, along its entire length from Bab al-Mandab to the Gulf of Aqaba, is subjected to at least a thousand earthquakes every day.

Laaboun pointed out that most of these earthquakes are inconspicuous shocks.

He pointed out that the areas that witnessed the earthquake in Syria, Turkey, Palestine and Lebanon were originally seismic areas millions of years ago, so cracks and earthquakes occur in them.

He noted that earthquake-prone areas stretch from the south of the Gulf of Aqaba to the point where it flows into the Red Sea southeast of Turkey, indicating that earthquakes can occur there at any time, whether initial or aftershocks, and their strength ranges from 1 to 8 degrees on the Richter scale.
