After more than four years of absence of the founders of the Instagram service, they are back again with a new application described as “Tik Tok News”.
On Tuesday, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger announced the launch of their new app, Artifact, which promises a personalized news feed powered by the latest AI technology.
In a post On Instagram, Krieger said he and Systrom have been working with a team talented for more than a year since the launch of the app. She added that they have started gradually making the app available to users. Now anyone can join a waitlist to try out the app.
Unlike Instagram, the new app focuses primarily on articles rather than photos, as Artifac provides content recommendations in based on interests.
According to the website (Platformer), which was the first to report the launch of the application, it allows discussion with friends.
The main feed of the new app will display popular articles from leading organizations mediaas well as other blogs, and the user feed will become more personalized in based on your preferences.
The launch comes as the platforms of social media are experimenting with new businesses in the wake of the turmoil and uncertainty that has gripped Twitter under new owner Elon Musk.
A number of services try to help users capture the news in a quick feed. Meanwhile, the rapid rise of the video sharing service in short form TikTok continues to push many apps, including Instagram, to copy its features.
Systrom and Krieger’s new Artifac app has been described by Platformer as a “tiktok for text” and could be a sudden threat on Twitter.
After launching Instagram together in 2010, Systrom and Krieger sold the app to Facebook for $1 billion in 2012. They left the company in 2018.
At the time it was reported that the reason behind the departure was the tensions that occurred between the founders of Instagram and the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, over the desire to questis the latest to integrate Instagram more in Facebook. Especially since Systrom and Krieger are known for keeping Instagram distinct from Facebook.
Since leaving the company, Systrom and Krieger have built a project focused on applications social of the future, and according to Platformer, the Artifac app is the first product of that project.
