iPadOS 16 is likely to come out in the last week of October

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says that Apple plans to release iPad 16.1 in the last week of October if there are no new software bugs or problems.

Gurman said in a tweet today that iPadOS 16.1 should be out the week of October 24. Since the latest beta versions of iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 have the same build number, Apple will likely release both updates simultaneously.

Because of the delay, iPadOS 16 will now be called iPadOS 16.1. The update works with all iPad Pro models, iPad Airs made after the third generation, iPad minis made after the fifth generation, and iPads made after the fifth generation.

Apple had said that iPadOS 16 would come out in October, but the company did not say when it would come out.

iPadOS 16 was supposed to come out with iOS 16 in September, but Apple pushed back the update because some users didn’t like the new Stage Manager feature, which lets you use multiple apps in windows that overlap each other.

Apple recently added Stage Manager to older iPad Pro models with A12X and A12Z chips from 2018 and 2020. However, these models don’t support an external display, so Stage Manager can only be used with four apps on the built-in screen. Apple also put off until later this year adding support for external displays to iPads with the M1 chip.

Apple has made Stage Manager better in the past few weeks, but some users say that the latest iPadOS 16 beta still has a few problems.

In October, macOS Ventura will also come out, possibly at the same time as iPadOS 16.1.
