Naval News reported that on Wednesday, October 12, Japan launched an upgraded Taigei-class military submarine.
“Wednesday, October 12: Jingei, the third Taigei-class diesel-electric submarine, was launched at the Japanese shipyard Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the Japanese Navy,” the website said.
The site states that Japan began developing the first modified Taigei submarine in 2018, launched it in October 2020, and entered service in 2022.2023.
The Taigei-designed submarines reportedly received state-of-the-art sonar systems, used special materials in their hulls to absorb and isolate sounds, and were equipped with advanced traps to deceive enemy torpedoes.
Each of the new Taigei submarines is about 84 meters long, 9.1 meters wide, and displaces about 3,000 tons.
