Ecologist Vladimir Benaev, Associate Professor at the Institute of Ecology of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, told what awaits humanity if by 2100 the Earth’s temperature rises by 2.5 degrees Celsius.
In an interview with the newspaper Izvestia, Benaev refers to the report of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which says that humanity will not be able to withstand a temperature rise of 1.5 degrees Celsius until the end of this century. Experts believe that the magnitude of the increase in temperature by 2100 will be about 2.5 degrees Celsius.
He adds: “There are two points of view – the first indicates that humanity will not be able to influence climate change in any way, because the globe is large and has an inertial system. continue to grow. As for the second point of view, it calls for a halt in industrial production processes in an attempt to prevent warming. There are different models and calculations. We still have 80 years until 2100. Nobody knows how things will be then.
But, according to him, humanity must take measures and actions to reduce risks, for example, to expand forest areas and reduce emissions.
He added that a 2.5 degree Celsius rise in temperature would lead to ice melting, leading to rising water levels and flooding coastal areas.
He says, “It will happen if people don’t move. But if there are measures and measures, such as the construction of dams in the Netherlands, there will not be much danger. We also need a monitoring system.”
