Twitter plans to start charging around $ 20 per month to allow users to keep the blue ticks as part of a premium service to be launched by the company’s new owner, billionaire Elon Musk.
“The whole verification process has been revamped at the moment,” Musk said on Twitter on Sunday, without giving further details on what could change.
According to a report published by the technical website “The Verge”, the company plans to increase its optional premium subscription of $ 4.99 per month called “Twitter Blue”, dedicated to verifying the identity of the holder, to $ 19.99 per month. account. The report points out that employees working on the project have until November 7 to launch the function, otherwise they will be fired. The report noted that “existing authorized users have 90 days to subscribe to the new Twitter Blue after its launch, otherwise they will lose their ticks.”
Twitter Blue launched in June last year as the first service in platform subscription that provides “exclusive access to premium features” on a monthly basis, including the ability to edit tweets. The tweet editing feature was also rolled out earlier this month after Musk insisted on using a Twitter poll in April asking his millions of followers if they wanted a button to edit tweets. And more than 70 percent agreed.
Musk has expressed his desire to increase the number of subscriptions to make up half of the company’s revenue.
