Apple Confirms Bug Stops Screen Time limits from sticking for kids

According to a report, a major parental control tool has been broken for months. Apple says it knows what’s going on and that fixes are coming.

If your child has been breaking the Screen Time limits you set on their Apple device, the Wall Street Journal may know why. They found that a bug has prevented certain Screen Time limits set through the Family Sharing system from saving properly for months. In May, Apple was meant to fix the problem, but it looks like it still exists.

Apple’s Family Sharing system lets parents limit how their kids use their devices. One of the most important controls is the ability to use a “Screen Time” feature to watch and limit how their kids use certain apps and devices. The Journal found that a setting called “Downtime,” which blocks access to the whole device, wasn’t being saved correctly. In one case, a user had to set the “Downtime” limit three times before saving it correctly. In the meantime, kids may have used their gadgets more than their parents wanted.

Apple told the Journal that the bug is still happening and is working on a fix, but it didn’t give a time frame. Apple told the Journal, “We are aware that some users may be having trouble resetting Screen Time settings without their permission.” “These reports are very important to us, and we have been and will continue to make changes to improve the situation.”
