Roblox Coming to Meta’s Quest VR Headsets in Open Beta
Meta (formerly known as Facebook) has announced that Roblox will be available on Meta’s Quest VR headsets, starting with an open beta on the App Lab platform. Roblox, a major player in the metaverse space, was rumored to become available on Meta Quest VR headsets this year.
of the Announcement
Players will soon be able to access the Quest version of Roblox on the Quest 2 and Quest Pro, and it will also work on the upcoming Quest 3. This expansion provides a significant opportunity for the Roblox developer community to optimize their existing games for Quest and build new ones for VR. The open beta will also allow developers to receive feedback from the Quest community and iterate on VR experiences before Roblox’s full release on the Meta Quest Store.
According to a blog post by Meta, Roblox will automatically publish some experiences that use default player scripts to support VR devices. These experiences have been found to typically run well in VR without modifications, ensuring a strong library of content from day one. Additionally, the cross-platform nature of Roblox will enable players to connect, play, and hang out with friends across Xbox, iOS, Android, and desktop, making VR more social than ever before.
Encouraging and Community Feedback
Today’s announcement aligns with Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki’s previous comments on the compatibility of Roblox with the Meta Quest. Baszucki stated that Quest makes “perfect sense for Roblox,” indicating the company’s plan to bring Roblox to Meta’s VR headsets in the future.
While Roblox is already compatible with various VR headsets, including Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, the Quest version will offer a more streamlined experience. Players will no longer need to connect their PC to a VR headset to enjoy Roblox, as the Quest version will be easier to load and access. The game will also be available for download directly from the Meta Quest Store.
Meta’s Quest 3: Enhanced Features and Pricing
Meta also unveiled the Quest 3, which is set to release in the fall at a price of $499. This marks a $100 increase compared to its 2020 predecessor, the Quest 2. The Quest 3 boasts high-resolution color mixed reality, is 40% thinner than its predecessor, and features the latest Snapdragon processor. The upgraded displays offer higher resolution, and the GPU performance is doubled, promising an improved virtual reality experience.
It is worth noting that Roblox on Meta’s Quest will only be available to users aged 13 and above. More details about the open beta will be shared by Meta as the launch date approaches.
