Twitter User Renounces Single Character Username for Company Offer: Interview with Jin X Huang

Twitter User Gives up Single-letter Username for Company’s Sake

A longtime user on the Twitter platform, now known as “X,” has abandoned his single-letter username in favor of the company’s benefit.

In an interview, the user revealed that Twitter (X) offered him several alternative usernames and free merchandise in exchange for giving up his account.

The user in question is Jin X Huang, a founding partner at Orange Photography.

Huang stated in an interview with Mashable, published yesterday, that he was expecting Twitter (X) to contact him regarding this matter.

Huang said, “I received an email informing me that the company will take my username,” noting that the email came from a general address, [email protected], and not from a specific employee in the company.

Huang, who had been using this username on the platform for over 16 years, mentioned that the company offered him alternatives to keep his account active. They also offered him a new username of his choice.

New Username and Compensation

Huang posted online on Wednesday, saying, “All is well,” and revealed his new username, x12345678998765.

While he did not receive any financial compensation, Huang stated that “Twitter” already offered him “some commercial services and a meeting with management.”

The new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, announced on Sunday the platform’s name change to “X.” As part of the switch, Musk changed his profile picture to the X logo, and the company dropped its famous bird logo.

Since Musk officially acquired Twitter in October, the platform has undergone significant changes in recent months, including reducing the number of direct messages users can send and the number of tweets they can see.

The platform faces new competition from Meta, the owner of Facebook, which recently launched the Threadz application as a competitor to Twitter. Additionally, the Chinese-owned TikTok app announced a new text feature on its platform earlier this week.
