iCloud Keychain Now Available for Seamless Integration with Chrome

Apple has allowed you to use your iCloud Keychain on Windows for a few years now. With a special Windows app and browser extensions, you could autofill passwords from iCloud Keychain on a Chrome browser. You couldn’t do this on a Mac, where the feature was only available on the Safari browser. Apple is adding support for the same process on the Mac, starting with macOS Sonoma. If you have the public beta or the developer beta, you can use the iCloud Passwords app in the Chrome store to try it out. (Support for Microsoft Edge is on the way.)

On a Mac, the iCloud Keychain is already set up and ready to use, so all you need is the iCloud Passwords Chrome extension. Yes, it will work even if you use a Chrome-based browser like Arc, Sidekick, Opera, etc. ICloud Passwords will work with any browser that can add Chrome add-ons.

Also, the expansion is very strong. Once it is set up, you can use autofill to sign in to websites. The good news is that this will also work for two-factor verification. In fact, you can use a QR code right inside the Chrome browser to set up a new two-factor proof code. All of the information is stored safely in iCloud Keychain and can be accessed on your iPhone and iPad.

This will finally make it easier for many people to start using iCloud Keychain as their main password manager. So far, third-party choices like Bitwarden and 1Password were very popular because they work well with many browsers and apps. The Chrome browser is taken care of with the iCloud Passwords app. Now is a great time to start using iCloud Keychain because the future of passkeys without passwords is coming soon, and Apple is one of the first companies to create and store these encryption keys safely in your iCloud Keychain account.
