Install macOS Sonoma Developer Beta?

Apple doesn’t suggest installing the macOS Sonoma Beta on your main Mac, so if you have a second Mac with no important data, use that one instead. This beta software often has bugs and other problems that can stop it from working right or cause other issues.

Will macOS Sonoma Beta run on My Mac?

MacOS Sonoma no longer works with a few Mac models compared to macOS Ventura. There is no help for the following Macs:

• 2017 MacBook Pro
• 2017 iMac
• 2017 MacBook (12-Inch)

‌macOS Sonoma‌ remains compatible with the following Macs:

• MacBook Pro: 2018 and later
• MacBook Air: 2018 and later
• Mac mini: 2018 and later
• iMac: 2019 and later
• iMac Pro: 2017
• Mac Studio: 2022 and later
• Mac Pro: 2019 and later

Don’t Forget to Back Up Your Mac

Make a Time Machine backup of your Mac before you install the software using this way. If you don’t, you won’t be able to return to the previous macOS version if something goes wrong.

How to Download macOS Sonoma Public Beta

• Open Safari on your Mac and go to the site for the Apple Beta Software Program.
• Tap Sign up and enter your Apple ID information, or sign in with your Apple ID if you’ve already signed up to beta test an update.
• If you have to, agree to the terms and conditions of the Apple Beta Software Program.
  After you sign in, the main screen will show you a Guide for Public Betas. Select macOS.
• Carefully read through Apple’s steps, click the “Get Started” link, and choose “Enroll your iOS device.”
• Make sure to back up your current version of macOS using Time Machine by following Apple’s steps or our guide. This will let you return to your previous macOS version if necessary. This is important if you don’t like trying macOS Sonoma.
• If your Mac has macOS Ventura 13.4 or later, go to System Settings > General > Software Update and click the Info button next to “Beta updates.” Then choose the beta version of macOS that you want to run. If your Mac is running macOS Ventura 13.3 or an older version, download and run the driver for the macOS Beta Access Utility from Apple. Then, follow the steps on the screen to finish the installation. Note that your Mac must be signed in with the same Apple ID you used to join the Apple Beta Software Program.

You can install the macOS beta by going to System Settings > General > Software Update. If a newly launched beta isn’t available when you check, you’ll get a message telling you when it is.

macOS Sonoma Features

• This fall, macOS Sonoma will develop several new features, such as desktop widgets, aerial screensavers like those on Apple TV, and improvements to apps like Messages and Safari. This new Game mode puts CPU and GPU speed first for gaming and more.
• You can now put the new interactive widgets right on your screen. Widgets blend in with your screen wallpaper so they don’t get in the way when you’re working, and you can use the same widgets from your iPhone on your Mac with Continuity.
• macOS Sonoma also adds new features to video conferencing, like Presenter Overlay, which lets users show themselves in front of the material they share. Reactions let users say how they feel during a video call, and the process of Screen Sharing has been made easier.
• Sonoma also adds a lot of new tools to Safari. An update to Private Browsing makes it safer from trackers and other people who might have access to the user’s computer. Profiles in Safari offer a way to separate browsing by topic, like having one for work and one for personal browsing. There is also a new way to make web apps that work like regular apps and speed up the time it takes to get to your favorite website.
